The white lion sank his claws deep into Denim's flesh, making him roar with pain. Fights between large cats could not ever last long. Anymore than a few minutes could cause fatal harm to both felines. As Alex sent attack after attack on Denim, the tawny lion continued to fight back. He desperately slashed out with his claws, hoping to aim for some painful points on his torso and face. He didn't want to kill Alex, but he couldn't help but fear that one of them would die here. They finally sprung away from each other and Denim started to circle him, eyes utterly fixed on his target. He wasn't going to show Alex how much pain he was already in. Crimson blood dripped onto the stone floor of the church from deep gashes on his chest, torso and face.
Before either of them launched the next attack, Alex suddenly turned on his sister. Glancing over at Neb, Denim narrowed his eyes suspiciously. What was she up to? Disregarding the squabbling siblings, Denim turned to the shocked looking Natiri. He hadn't wanted to fight his brother, but it had been necessarily. His quickly looked her over for any serious injuries, but was satisfied that she wasn't going to die on him. There was a silent conversation conveyed between them through their eyes. He nodded minutely to tell his best friend that he was fine, he would live. He winced a little as he flexed his front two legs. The wounds were deep, but they would heal with time. He wasn't sure he could fight Alex again.
Denim managed to tune into the conversation Alex and Nebula were having. He stayed standing, tense and worried that Alex would launch another attack. "You're insane, Alex," Denim cut in, staring at his brother sadly, "How is this going to accomplish anything?" He shook his head, and gazed back at his sister. He didn't trust the words that Nebula said. She was leaving Iris? What the hell was wrong with her? Denim took a small step back, shaking his head. He couldn't possibly believe that she had truly changed. She had killed. She had tortured. Denim let out a rumbling snarl at the lioness. "Don't think that makes us friends, Nebula," He growled lowly, "You killed an innocent canine and enjoyed it. Whether you have changed or not, you are still not my sister."
Denim's heart sank. He longed to have his siblings back, but he just couldn't trust anyone anymore. Nebula may have changed, but he would never be able to look at her as an equal. Whenever he looked into her eyes, she would see the dying eyes of the canine she killed staring back at her. Closing his eyes, Denim let out a shuddering breath. He couldn't stay here. Alex would explode with rage. He gazed down at Natiri, before brushing his muzzle against hers gently. "Let's go." He whispered, turning on his heel. He walked with a limp and he felt thirsty and dizzy from blood loss. Nevertheless, he stumbled towards the exit of the church, wanting to get out of this fucked up family.

Maybe it was minutes, or maybe it only lasted a few seconds. But when it was over, he looked at Denim and chuckled throatily at the bleeding gashes that littered his shoulders and flanks - until he tried to move away, and the pain from his own wounds caused him to let out a silent whimper. He wasn't down yet, though, far from it. He would have gone straight for Denim's throat for his next move if Nebula hadn't stopped him.
Then she made her decision. The sad part was, even before he'd made her choose, he had known this was coming. From the moment she told him to stop attacking the dog, he knew something was seriously wrong with her. He just stood and looked at her strangely, barely comprehending the long series of words that spilled out of her mouth save for one part that really caught his attention. She had met some strange cat who told her to take pity on dogs? And she believed this stranger, took his words as truth, for no reason at all? So then she was brainwashed, just like Denim. His entire family was. Only one thing firmly clicked in his mind, and that was that Alex needed to get out of there right away. Three animals, two of them lions, all against him was a recipe for disaster. He was sure he'd be able to take down Denim given enough time, but definitely not Nebula too. He was outmatched and he knew it.
Still breathing heavily, he backed away from his sister and managed to find his voice again, and he surprised himself with how calm he sounded. "You were the one person I thought I could count on. The one person who felt the same as me, who shared my dreams and my pain...the one person I thought I could always trust to be there for me no matter what. Now you completely reject me and Iris, after you promised to stand by my side and help me lead, and you say you're not betraying me? Has the definition of traitor changed without me knowing? Well, regardless, here's the unfortunate truth, Nebs: for once, Denim's actually right. You can leave me, you can leave our home and abandon everybody who's ever loved you. But you'll always be an Iris cat. Not because of your bloodline; because you've tortured and killed a dog, and more importantly, because you laughed while you did it and enjoyed the suffering you caused."
Alex knew she wouldn't deny it, but he went on anyway, wanting to hammer his point in as far as he could. "I saw you. You were practically bathing in that dog's filthy blood and you loved every minute of it. Like you said, that blood is on your paws, a stain that will never come off, and no matter how hard you try to wash it, no matter what you do to try and make up for it, it's still a part of you forever. So don't think you can just run away from Iris, don't think you can go out into the world and move on from your old life and have everyone forgive you. Because even if we never speak to or see each other ever again, that memory will always be there to remind you of what you really are. You're a killer, Nebula! Just like me."
He stood there a moment and grinned at her, letting his speech hang in the quiet air and sink into her like a knife slowly cutting into flesh. Then he abruptly turned to Denim and the dog, still smiling. He walked past the two just as they started to leave as well and quietly told them in a deadly whisper, "Until next time." Without another word to any of them, he dashed out of the church and disappeared back into the rain and fog, the lingering smell of blood in the room the only indication he'd ever been there at all.
