All at once, the memories came flooding back to her. The days she had been stuck here with Bane, and her pups... her pups. Each and every second of that torture played out again right before her eyes, the orders Florence gave her, how Brooke herself had had to resign to killing the very beings she had produced. How she had failed as a mother to her two surviving children afterwards because of the trauma.
How in the world could she have let this happen to more of her Pack? It wasn't as if she hadn't tried to make a plan to go through with this earlier, but none of the other times made sense. There was too much risk and not enough gain. But poor Nikita, poor Hueso... poor Ryo and Estelle. With those thoughts running through her head, she, for the first time, considered stepping down as Leader once this mission was complete.
Perhaps she had finally, finally outlived her usefulness to this pack if she could not protect two of her youngest members, the future of Tempest.
Nikita springing into action before orders were called brought Brooke back to reality, however. With a hushed voice, she tried to call back the anxious mother, but it was to no avail. In moments, a fight broke out. The Mistress did not waste a second in springing forward, calling back to Gusto behind her, "Stay where you are!"
She didn't want another young soul destroyed by these vile creatures.
Brooke first found Ryu, glancing up at the battle ensuing only for a moment. She recognized Denim, one of Florence's sons, in the crossfire. He was fighting for them? Brooke didn't really have time to stop and question his motives, though. She simply ushered the injured young male towards the Coyote awaiting further orders. "Gusto, I'm counting on you to take him home!" she called. Brooke looked over her shoulder once more, just in time to see Nikita's blood splash, and she visibly tensed. "N-no..."
But Denim came rushing forward to avenge her, and instead of joining the fight, Brooke turned around and sped off with Gusto, guiding him and Ryu to the boarder in case they were being pursued. She walked with them just a small ways away from Iris before turning back. She wasn't going to leave Estelle. Not when Nikita had come so close to saving her daughter. If it was the very last thing Brooke did, she was going to not let that death be in vain.
She hurried back up the stairs, not even bothering to try and keep quiet at this point, panting heavily. The fight had, for the most part, ceased. She stepped away from Denim as he heaved the body of Nikita over himself and walked out of the building. How dare he?! But at the same time, Brooke knew better than to attack him. Without him, they wouldn't have even been able to rescue Ryu.
She walked down the hall again, eyes growing hazy and distant as those same, horrible memories began to haunt her once more. "I don't think I can do this anymore," she whispered to herself. "I just can't." But the shuffling of paws once again took her away from her thoughts, and it was then that she noticed Hueso. Dread washed over her immediately as she wordlessly took to her General's side. Tonight would be a night of mourning for all of them, but none more so then The General.
Nikita would be honored properly as a true soldier of Tempest.

He looked at the Akita with a look of confusion and worry. He could hear voices outside, there were guards somewhere outside of the cell, why was Nikita leaving? He panicked when she left the group before anyone could stop her.
Gus could hear a fight outside. Hesitantly, he started to follow Brooke out, thinking he could somehow help until he was ordered to stay in the cell. His ears flattened against his head. He was worried for his packmate and leader, but he would follow orders. He didn't want to risk others getting hurt like Nikita possibly did by now.
He couldn't resist slowly approaching the door to the cell and carefully peeking out the door. Brooke was with a dog who was in poor health. 'One of the dogs we're rescuing.' He thought and looked further behind them at a shredded figure on the floor. His eyes widened when he realized who it was. This situation kind of felt like deja vu: Gus hiding and watching helplessly as a canine he knows is torn apart.
He was so shocked by the sight of his dead packmate, he didn't know the two dogs had approached him until Brooke spoke.
It was obvious that Gus was nervous, anyone could see it on his face for a moment before he looked at the, soon to be, former Iris prisoner. After being trapped here for a long time, this dog, Ryu, could probably use a friendly smile.
Gus hoped his friendly smile would cheer the dog up as he turned and spoke. "Don't worry, I'll make sure nothing happens to you." He said, sounding more confident than he actually was. He led them out the same way they came in, down the stairs and out of the slaughterhouse, looking over his shoulder occasionally to make sure Ryu was still behind him.
He didn't expect to be able to get out too easily. Once they had escaped the slaughterhouse, he could see felines a little further behind them. One of their pursuers, a clouded leopard, had almost caught up to them. Gus sped back at the feline, surprising it for a moment when the coyote practically headbutted him. Gus could hear a voice further behind the cats that were chasing them, but he didn't pay too much attention to who it was.
He quickly bit into the side of it neck, leaving it to flail in pain on the ground before running back to Ryu, running through dark alleyways as he led Ryu home as best as he could.
(you can powerplay with Gus a little if you want, just don't kill him. sorry if I left some things out)

Standing frozen, not knowing what to do now, a black creature suddenly came out of a room just beside him. His reaction was slow due to his poor condition, but he recognized the black canine immediately when she spoke to him. It was Nikita, Estelle’s mother. Then he hadn’t just imagined her scent. His pack was actually here, coming to save Estelle and him. Had he not been this puzzled, Ryu could have cried of joy. We’re not forgotten. They’re here to get us out. But oh how much he wished he knew where Estelle was – the look on the Akita’s face was full of horror as she realized that her daughter wasn’t with him. But he didn’t have the time to cry. It was only a matter of time before Denim couldn’t hold the guards off anymore and as the commands rushed out of Nikita, he was determined to follow her say. He wasn’t safe yet, and in this condition he wouldn’t be able to help his best friend’s mother. He needed to get out so she didn’t have to think about him as well. That was the only way he could help. ”I’m sorry Nikita,” he said as she darted across the floor as an arrow, ready to charge at the leopard guard.
But he didn’t have to take more than a few steps before he heard a commanding voice, a voice which he knew very well – gosh, he’d almost peed himself in excitement when he first had seen her, holding a speech for the whole pack. And then she stood there, Brooke, coming out of the same room which Nikita had come out of just a moment earlier. He heard the fight escalate behind him and looked back to find Denim fighting the lion guard as Nikita ran past. He couldn’t believe that Florence’s son actually had wanted to get him out of here. Had he really been telling Ryu the truth when they’d stood face to face inside the pen? But this was no time to reflect over things. Ryu followed Brooke’s gaze when she spoke and found a young coyote, apparently named Gusto. Then he heard vicious snarls and whimpers from behind, and when he looked over his shoulder, he saw Nikita being mauled by the felines. Shocked by the sight and the piercing sounds, Ryu was unable to say a thing. Would Estelle now be saved? Would Hueso hate him even more now?
He then looked back at the coyote and returned his smile weakly. Gusto’s voice sounded confident and he nodded, still not able to speak. Now it was time for them to run, to get out of here. And in a hurry. The three felines which had mutilated Nikita now came running after them. Supporting himself against Gusto, Ryu tried to get his legs moving while Brooke ran behind them. It was hard reaching the end of the corridor because his legs hadn’t been used for running in almost a year. Already at this state, Ryu panted heavily and his too skinny body ached horribly at the effort. But he had to go on. They’d come to rescue him, get him out of here. He wouldn’t collapse, he simply couldn’t. This was all too important. He wouldn’t fail. The staircase especially proved to be a challenge for the black and white dog. Even though his bony body still was supported against Gusto’s, Ryu more stumbled than ran down the stairs.
And then there was the light.
”Argh!” He moaned and almost had to shut his eyes. For the first time in a very long time, he was finally out. ”I’m free,” he panted, feeling how the fresh air boosted his lungs and body with new energy. He shook at the feeling, but not due to the cold air. He was so close now on getting his freedom, and realizing this, Ryu felt like his body was full of renewed energy. As they continued, running away from the slaughterhouse, Gusto turned back for a second to fight off a leopard, but soon caught up with them again. Smiling weakly, Ryu was awed by the young coyote’s bravery. With Gusto and Brooke’s help, the three of them crossed the alleys on the pride’s territory smoothly without encountering any more dangerous felines. It felt like a labyrinth to Ryu, who sometimes felt like he passed out even though he kept running, but he trusted in Gusto and Brooke. It seemed like they knew perfectly well where they were going. One of the times where his vision blurred, and only moved his legs as if per instinct, Ryu thought he caught the scent of someone very dear to him. The strong, white frame appeared in his mind, behind his blurred vision, and Ryu almost wished he was here. But then again, did he really dare to face Hueso at this point?
Suddenly Brooke turned back. Not understanding at first, Ryu looked over his shoulder though he kept running with Gusto. Were more felines approaching who needed to be fought off? But seeing no one chasing after them, Ryu could only think of one possibility. We’re out of the Iris Pride’s territory! He could feel his heart pounding heavily in his chest, but the feeling of freedom kept him running. They weren’t completely safe before they had reached the Tempest Pack’s boarders.
Still running as fast as his body could manage, Ryu felt how the stench of the long hated smell of the Iris Pride faded and was replaced by the scents of thousands of others. It felt like he’d come to a whole new world, full of possibilities. And then he caught it. The scent of the Tempest Pack, the scent of home. At first he hadn’t thought about it because he could sense the scent on Gusto’s pelt, but as if became even stronger, he knew that it couldn’t just be from Gusto. Just before he’d looked at the ground, but looking up, Ryu could now see it. His home. No matter how much he’d before doubted it, he now knew that this was his home. It was here he belonged, and the pack really cared for him. They’d shown that at the most extreme. Crossing the border to the Tempest Pack’s territory, Ryu collapsed almost immediately. He panted so wildly that he at first couldn’t speak when he saw three dogs, probably soldiers, racing toward Gusto and him. ”I’m back… I’m home… I’m free,” he whispered, just loud enough for Gusto to hear. As the three dogs reached them, his vision blurred again and he felt how exhaustion was pulling at him, luring him into sleep. He heard the canines speak, but he wasn’t able to pick out any words, he was simply too tired. As the four canines around him started to fade into nothing but silhouettes, Ryu parted his lips one last time, whispering, as he drifted into the sweet unconsciousness. ”Thank you… Thank. You.”
((OOC: YAY! Little Estelle and Ryu are okay now, thank you guys! ^^ <3 This is obviously my last post with Ryu, so unless some of you want to write any more, I think this thread is ended ^^))
