(THE SMALLER FEATURES);
Character name: Amberlyn Age: 3 years Animal: Canine Breed/s: Saluki Pack: Loner, will probably eventually join Lexis
(I THINK I NEED A THERAPIST);
Personality: A sweet, gentle female to almost anyone she meets, Amber’s bright smile and confident gait allow her to seemingly ooze optimism. She constantly feels the need to help others, to cheer them up – even when they don’t necessarily want her help. Her overly pleasant nature does tend to get on the nerves of some, and she is slowly beginning to realize this. Nonetheless, it hasn’t stopped her from trying to make friends with everyone, even cats.
Although she can appear fragile and timid, Amberlyn usually won’t shy away from violence. Her life in the city has helped her become used to the sight of death and fighting. She certainly doesn’t agree with murder, no matter what the circumstances are, but she is willing to accept that the world she lives in is a harsh place. Amber would gladly fight to defend someone in need, yet her own body wasn’t made for battle. Instead, she prefers to make a quick escape if she can.
Something that often lands her in bad situations is her boundless curiosity. She gladly listens to whatever strangers say, has a habit of sticking her nose in where it doesn’t belong, and loves to investigate everything. Her somewhat naïve and innocent character leaves her easily open to manipulation as well. If she thinks she can help someone by doing so, she will gladly go along with just about anything anyone says.
Three strengths: -She is quite good at making conversation, even with strangers. -Being a fast hunter, she can usually escape danger by outrunning it. -She can hide her emotions well, even when she’s under stress. It takes a lot to break her smile.
Three weaknesses: -She can be forgetful and easily distracted, making her unreliable at times. -She is very weak when it comes to fighting and most likely wouldn’t be able to defend someone, no matter how loyal she is to them. -She often isn’t able to tell a bad situation from a good one.
(LOOKIN' AT MY REFLECTION);
Height: 20 in. Weight: 47 lbs. Appearance: Tall and graceful, Amber has the traditional look of a Saluki hound. Her body, built for running, is slender and well muscled. She has a narrow neck and muzzle, with a slight slope in her back that travels to her hindquarters. Perhaps her most distinguishing feature is her long feathery ears, something her breed is known for.
The color of her coat is mainly a rusty red with varying shades of brown and black, the darkest areas being around her neck, shoulders and the ends of her ears. Her muzzle, neck, chest, and the undersides of her legs and tail are all an off white sprinkled with spots of brown. Her tail is long and wiry, with a curve near the end and a feathered texture.
Her paws have grown strong over the years, and though her pads are often blistered due to traveling, a fine layer of fur protects her toes. Her eyes are wide, oval-shaped and dark brown.
(REMINISCING LIKE HELL);
History: Born to a single mother, Amberlyn grew up in a desolate city that provided very little in the way of nourishment for her and her three siblings. The food her mother brought them consisted of starved rodents or scraps found lying in the streets, and the pups were barely sheltered from the elements. Her mother grew weak and sickly as time went on, having spent so much time and energy caring for her children that she had neglected her own needs. When the pups learned to hunt, they took turns caring for their mother and providing her with food just as she had done for them.
When the pups reached two years of age, it was time for them to leave the city and start their own lives. The old female knew and accepted this fact, but Amber was certain that her mother still needed more time to recover before she would be able to fend for herself again. So she stayed behind while her brother and sisters left, caring for her frail mother despite wanting to leave the filthy city herself. Murder and other crimes among the dogs living there was becoming a daily occurrence; food was becoming even scarcer. Though her mother was concerned for her safety and wished for her to leave the place as well, Amber only shook her head and smiled.
Eventually her mother regained her strength. Though the female was growing old and wouldn’t be able to hunt as well as she could in the past, she implored her daughter to make a better life for herself away from the city. While Amber refused at first, with good intentions her mother finally chased her out forcefully. With nowhere else to go, Amberlyn headed to Hexasol and hoped to find a brighter future there.
Major turning points in life: -Being left alone with her mother -Leaving the city and becoming a loner
(ALL ABOUT YOU, YOU, YOU);
Roleplaying Sample:
Today was unusually cold. Even as she lay directly in the sun, Amberlyn still felt the bitter wind sweep through her fur. The Saluki curled herself into a ball, shut her eyes and tried to imagine she was someplace warm, like a desert. It helped for a moment until another wind shook her and caused her teeth to chatter, at which point she knew laying down wasn’t going to do any good. With her paws numb, Amber stood and trotted around in a small circle to bring the blood back into her legs.
The area around the river was colored with flowers and she couldn’t help but feel sorry for the poor things. This frost would no doubt kill them. Yet somehow the fish that were swimming about in the cold water seemed totally immune to the temperature. She watched them dart around, wondering if perhaps she could catch one with her paws. It had been awhile since her last meal and simply watching the little fish was causing her stomach to ache with hunger.
After splashing around for a few minutes and trying to scoop one up, Amberlyn sighed and pouted in frustration. They were much too fast, even for a dog bred for speed and quick reflexes. Her belly continued to hurt and she knew sitting there staring at the fish wasn’t going to make it full. It was only another day’s walk until she reached Hexasol where she was positive there would be an abundance of food. Yet for a moment she couldn’t help but worry. What if the dogs there were mean? What if they didn’t like her?
Amber quickly pushed the negative thoughts from her head and let the smile return to her face. Moving to the city would be a new beginning and she was confident she would fit in just fine. With a skip in her step she began heading down the river, looking for an easy way to cross over to the other side.
