Sage padded through the snow trying to stop her jaw from making that chattering noise. She wasnt exactly sure why she had decided to climb to the top of the mountian but here she was walking around on a mountain that if you missed a step you could plumet to your death. This was so unlike her, to take a chance and climb a mountain. Seriously, had she been thinking at all? Apparently not. What seemed like a good idea now seemed like an idea for death.
Once her teeth stopped chattering she began muttering to herself all of the horrible things that could happen up here on the mountain. Of course this just made her worry worse. When she got to level land she stopped and sat on her haunches. She knew she wouldnt be able to keep walking much further but she wanted to think for a moment. Just because she didnt have a long coat didnt mean she couldnt enjoy the view of the mountains scenery.
Up here she could see everything, the city, some more of the country, and all of the pack's territory. Ah, the packs. Sage herself was a stray, a loner. She didnt really want to choose sides, even if cats have a tendency to annoy her. All of the packs wanted to stop the war or win the war and with what ---evil. Something Sage tried to stay away from.
It wasnt til her paws started to burn that Sage realized she had been enjoying the view for longer then a second. She quickly hopped up and began trudging through the snow hoping to find a nice cave or something to keep her warm for the night. She still hadnt figured out what she was going to do for food because it was obvious that there werent going to be many options in this wintery mountain.

Strangler's Mountain. It wasn't exactly a peaceful name. Ink stared up at the tallest mountain in Hexasol and tilted his head, wondering whether he'd actually be able to climb it. The peak was caked with snow, showing just how cold it was up there. Not only that, but one wrong step would cause him to plunge to his inevitable death. Ink smiled to himself. Perfect. Ink did love a challenge, especially when danger was involved. Seeing as he knew he would die soon just showed that he could do absolutely anything. He'd stare death right in the eyes and announce that he wasn't scared. Although, right at the back of his head, Ink shivered. Yes, he was slightly frightened of the inevitable day when he'd snuff it, but he tried not to think about that fast-approaching day just yet. Right now... he was going to climb a mountain.
There was a well-trodden path that humans used to take to climb up the mountain, so Ink chose that route. It was easy at first. The weather was moderately warm for a Spring day, so he wasn't shivering just yet. However, as he ascended higher, the path became steeper and steeper and the weather got colder and colder. The snow was still up ahead, but already Ink was shivering through his thin fur and small body. He was small and lean, meaning he had little fat or muscle to keep him warm. But Ink knew he couldn't turn back now. Ink drove on, bowing his head painfully and carrying on.
Any minute now, a disaster could strike. If his cancer began to spike up problems now, Ink knew for a fact that he wouldn't be able to move and he'd probably die there on the mountainside. Other disasters could occur, such as another, stronger animal coming along and killing him, or slipping and falling along the ledge that he was perched so precariously on. Shuddering at the thought of plunging to his death, Ink continued to climb. Soon enough, his paws hit ice and snow and he yelped at the suddenly coldness on his feet.
Ink stopped for a moment to look at the view, and it took his breath away. The sun was still high in the sky, but even then, he could see for miles. In the distance was Hexasol, only a blur to him. The tallest building were easier to see. Closer to that, he could see Avalon Lake and Puzzlewood Forest that marked the end of the city. Everything looked so beautiful up here.
Finally, finally, Ink reached the top. Shivering from the coldness, he stared out at the view for a few minutes, still breath taken, before turning away. As he looked around, Ink swore he saw something spotty in the distance, or was it just his imagination? Frowning, Ink followed the spots, and as he got closer, everything became apparent to him.
"Sage?!"

Sage was no longer mad at herself for coming up onto stranglers mountain, she was furious. She would have yelled at the sky if it had not been for the fact her mouth was frozen shut and fr the fact that if she had done that she probably would have caused a avalanche. So with a furious concious she kept trudging through thick, cold snow. She felt as if her feet were fixing to fall off and like her body was going to shiver for the rest of her life.
Not a few minutes had passed, and sage was no longer furious she was scared out of her life. If she could have cried she would had but any tears she had froze on her face so instead she just whimpered with every step she took.Sage didnt know someone was behind her because she couldnt hear well over the drastic winds but when she heard faint foot steps behind her she started to turn around. Although before she could she heard someone call her name, Sage?! it was faint but only one person spoke like that and would take the time in this weather to call her name.
Quickly turning around, sage hopped over to Ink with as much of a smile she could put on in this weather. Wraping her neck around his she giggled. "Ink!? I should have known you'd be somewhere dangerous. You love danger." She didnt stop hugging him because she didnt want to and also for the fact that the little body heat he had felt good against her skin.
Sage never thought she'd see ink again but here they were, fate really did want them together and now they were. Sage didnt care why fate wanted the two dalmatians to be together but she wasnt going to stop fate from bringing her her best friend, maybe more. Sage stopped hugging ink and just stared, almost lovingly into his eyes. "Gosh. You have no idea how happy i am to see you. At least if i die up here on this stupid mountain of death I get to see you before it happens."

Ink only just about had enough energy to wag his tail. He was surprised there weren't icicles hanging off it as it was just that cold. His head turned to look at the view slightly, and he realised that clouds were looming below them, indicating that it was probably raining in Hexasol. It had been raining an awful lot lately, and Ink was getting worried about it. Nevermind, they were fine up here on the freezing cold mountain. Well, as fine as they could be on a mountain. Moving his neck so that he was embracing Sage's head again, Ink closed his eyes and snorted happily, watching as dragon's breath came out of his nostrils. It was so cold that his breath was visible.
"You're not going to die," Ink laughed as he finally released her, but sidled their bodies up together so that they'd keep warmer. Sage was ice cold just like he was, so it was barely very good body heat. "Follow me. I passed a cave coming up here with a great view of the city." |
Licking the side of her muzzle gently and fondly, Ink began to walk, his paws crunching on the icy snow. It wasn't the good type of snow that you find in Winter, when it's soft and fluffy. No, this is the type of snow that's fallen a long while ago, but it hasn't been warm enough to melt. Instead, it's all iced over and gone crunchy and hard, merged with mud and God-knows what else. They descended a little way down the mountain, until Ink found the cave that he'd seen earlier. It wasn't too spacey and would probably be a bit of a squeeze to fit them both in, but it would be better than being out in the open, especially as the wind was beginning to pick up. Nudging Sage to go in first, he followed, listening to whistling, hissing wind from outside. It looked like a snow storm would be starting, and Ink didn't want to be caught up in that. "So, Sage, what on Earth are you doing up here? You wouldn't even climb a tree a month ago!" He laughed, resting his head against Sage's neck and closing his eyes, happy to be with Sage again. He missed her terribly a lot of the time, and enjoyed her company a lot. [/blockquote][/blockquote]

Action. thoughts "Speech."
"and this is someone else speaking"
Sage padded into the cave first and then layed down leaving enough room for Ink to lay beside her. She felt better now that their were walls to keep the horrible winds from slaughtering her and she was also glad that Ink was here. Although she'd rather have him somewhere warm instead of this mountain whos name sage figured fit perfectly, but if he had to be on this death mountain she was glad he was with her. Smiling, she could feel her body slowly defrosting and Ink's head laying on her neck.
She gave a soft grin and licked the spot on his head that was between his ears. She then heard him speak in some what of a suprised tone. "So, Sage, what on Earth are you doing up here? You wouldn't even climb a tree a month ago!" She should have known he'd ask that because it was true. A month ago when she and ink had first met they had been playing around the park and Ink decided to climb a tree, of course he never asked Sage to climb it but it was truly obvious that she was not going to climb a tree if her life depended on it.
She really didnt know why she had climbed the mountain, but she did remember that before she began climbing the mountai she was thinking of that same day when ink climbed the tree and felt accomplished. Had she climbed the mountain to feel accomplished or to feel a little more of ink? It was crazy. Not really sure how to respond she gave out a short laugh and spoke "Hey, I had my reasons for not climbing that tree. I didnt want to plumet to my death, unlike some silly people." she giggled and licked his head then continued. "and my reason for coming up here... well, i actually think I wanted to try and be adventrous like you." she spoke the last bit in more of a soft, confessing tone.
Gazing momentarily into Inks amber eyes she slowly smiled and looked away. One soft giggle was a it took to lighten the slight awkwardness of her words but she was glad she had said that. She didnt have to worry about embarrasing things with ink, not really, because they got along no matter what. Looking back at ink she titled her head in the cute puppy way and spoke "so what is ink doing up here on this mountain of death? Being adventrous?" |

Ink's body was slowly heating up now that he was lying next to Sage's defrosting body. They were still quite chilled, and Ink's body racked with violent shivers that made his eyesight go blurry. Yet as they lay together side by side for another few minutes, his shivers slowed down significantly, and he contently lay against Sage's body without a care in the world. He was just happy to be with Sage again, after a long time being apart. Ink didn't understand the feeling his heart made every time he saw her. It was clench and flutter, and his stomach would turn uneasily, and Ink wasn't sure whether it was his cancer that was making him feel ill, or Sage herself.
Smiling to himself at the lick against his head, Ink let his eyes flutter shut as she showered him with affection. She really was the only dog that seemed to be kind to him. It was tough to be a loner around here, especially with no friends. Some liked seeing him make a fool of himself, like jumping off cliffs into the sea, but really, that was it. Ink wanted closeness, just like he had with Sage. It wouldn't be long now before Ink would say goodbye to this world. Whatever happened after death... well, no one knew. He remembered a discussion that he and Sage had had a few weeks ago, up on a rooftop somewhere, staring up at the glittering stars. He hoped that he could one day become a star, and watch down on everyone, especially Sage.
Laughing happily, Ink licked the side of Sage's neck, "Well, I'm proud of you. You made it all the way up here on your own." He said, voice full of respect and adoration, "Bit cold now, though. We might have to sleep here." |
Ink said, peering out and wincing at the sudden coldness that slapped harshly against his cheek. Ink quickly brought his head back into the cave, cuddling up against Sage's warm body. [/blockquote][/blockquote]

Action. thoughts "Speech."
A large smile swept across Sage's face when Ink said he was proud of her. It felt quite good to have someone be proud of you, especially if you had never had that feeling before but she also knew that if felt ten times better to have ink proud of her adventureous streak then anyone else Sage had known. When Ink spoke about how they'd have to sleep here tonight her heart gave a soft flutter, it always did that when she was around Ink and was only happening more often. Sage was actually glad that they'd have to stay in the cave because she figured that if they had to leave the cave her and ink would just part from each other sooner.
She watched as Ink lifted his head and peered out of the small cave only to feel him wince about a second later. Before she could comfort him she felt his cold nose pressed softly against her body. She gave a satisfying grin and gave once last lick to his forehead then layed her head next to his body. She had never met anyone like Ink before, he loved danger and adventures, he loved to take chances but he did it without evil. That was just one thing that made him different from all the other canines Sage had met. He was loving, the first day she met Ink she felt showered with instant love... of course .. it was just friendly love but she had never connected with anyone like that. Not even her family.
She wondered if Ink had this affect on other canines... mainly females, the affect that made her heart flutter, always wanting to be around him, wanting to be like him in ways. She could go one for ages of how he affected her but yet she always dismissed the the slight possibility that she loved ink more then a friend. Sage was young, and had always dreamt of falling in love but even at her young age she had some worry that she'd never find someone. Some one who didnt involve evil in life and made her feel special, ..... like Ink.
Of course, when the thought of love appeared in her mind Sage quickly tried to dismiss the thought. For some reason the idea of love made her stomach twist and feel uneasy... like she had butterflies. Giving the occasional lick to Ink she finally gave a soft sigh and spoke "It seems when ever we depart fate brings us right back to each other....which isnt a bad thing at all." She spoke in tired, soft voice and at the end she spoke with happiness. She wasnt going to deny the fact that she liked having Ink around, even if her mind told her to do the oppisite.

Ink was pretty oblivious to love, and what followed afterwards. He'd never seen love happen between two dogs, and he'd never been explained what exactly it was. So the fluttering feeling in his stomach just made him think that it was probably the stupid cancer playing up, not the effect that Sage had on him. He was pretty naive when it came to love, so he'd never be the one to make the first move. Ink had never even spared a thought of a mate or a family, especially after he discovered the lump. He'd never want to hurt a family like that when he suddenly dropped dead. Yet even as Ink thought about it, he realised that Sage would still be hurt over his death. They may not be lovers or mates, but they were close friends now, and because of this, she'd be devastated. Ink knew he should never have gotten so close to her in the first place, but he couldn't help it. She was wonderful and lovely and made him smile.
When Sage spoke, Ink cocked his head. Fate. He'd never really believed in it before, but as Ink thought about it, he realised that he and Sage seemed to just keep on meeting without meaning to. As if the universe was pushing them together, like two magnets inevitably going to attract. What Ink didn't understand was why the universe would want to do that. What was so special about Ink and Sage? Brow furrowing, Ink looked into Sage's icy blue eyes and frowned. Perhaps they were destined to do great things together?
"Well, I'm not complaining."
Ink huffed out a laugh and cuddled up against Sage again, staring out at the beautiful view. It still seemed to be raining down below. It hadn't rained this much in ages. If it carried on like this, the whole city could flood, and that would be a disaster. Ah well, he and Sage were up on his mountain. Nothing could get them here, especially not a bit of rain.

"Well, Im not complaining" Ink spoke with a tiny laugh "Neither am I" sage replied with the same small laugh.
It was pouring down rain, now which made Sage feel reliefed that she wasnt out in the rain and snow but instead next to her dearest friend. Ink. She snuggled next to him without an ounce of nervousness or even shy. She could bring up anything with him and he'd listen. It felt good to have someone there for her and she wondered what she'd do once ink was gone. Fate couldnt keep putting them together like this no matter how much Sage wanted.
Ink was gorgeous in every way and was bound to fall in love one day: then he'd forget about her. Everyone moves on and deep down Sage knew she break if Ink moved on, leaving her in the dust. Before she started to shed crying she felt Ink move slightly and she remembered, Ink was here with her. What was there to cry about, she was lucky enough to have met Ink ... meeting Ink was the best thing ever.
She coaxed her head next to his and let her soft, wet nose touch his cheek letting out a small giggle when she felt her nose touch his soft coat. At that instant Sage felt the sudden urge to ask Ink what he thought of love, and without letting her mind put a say so in but instead letting her heart lead: she spoke. "Ink? Do you believe in love?" Duh, he believes in love... gosh what a stupid question she thought and quickly spoke again.
"Well,i mean not believe in it but what do you think of love.?"

Sage's question startled Ink, and he immediately shot his head up with a confused look in his eyes. Love. It was something Ink vowed never to do in his short lifetime as it would inevitably end with heartbreak, yet he had also learned that love was powerful and uncontrollable. If you fall in love, you can't help it. You cannot force yourself to fall in love, but you cannot force yourself to fall out of love. It was a confusing thing that Ink had never understood, no matter how much his mother explained it to him. She only had the experience of love from her and his deceased father, but Ink could almost see the love radiating off her as she spoke about him, voice full of adoration and sadness. Ink never wanted to make a female feel like that about him.
Ink chewed on the words he decided to say. It was difficult to describe love in just a few sentences as there was just so much to cover. "I think, He started, voice still thoughtful, "Love can be wonderful, with the right couple. Other times love can be painful, such as unrequited, or a death of a partner. Love can be overrated and underrated, and really, I haven't got a clue." |
He said as he met Fate's eyes, wondering why she'd asked that question. In the back of his mind, he knew. He knew why Fate had asked, but Ink didn't want to call her upon it. Sighing, Ink shot the question back at her. "What about you? What's your opinion on love?" He prompted, leaning against the warm body again and closing his eyes. Love was a funny business, which could be painful and sad, but also filled with laughter and happiness. He didn't understand the concept and the science behind love, but no one really needed to know that. [/blockquote][/blockquote]

Action. thoughts "Speech."
Waiting for Ink's answer Sage felt her heart pounding and she found it impossible to look anywhere else but his beautfiul amber eyes. Knowing she'd look quite strange if all she did was look at his eyes, she forced herself to look in another direction. Trying to calm down her heart beat, things only got worse. Why was she feeling this way? but of course, she knew why. Sage was smart, but when it came to Ink and how much she really loved him she was so stupid.
She glanced back at Ink when he spoke "Love can be wonderful, with the right couple. Other times love can be painful, such as unrequited, or a death of a partner. Love can be overrated and underrated, and really, I haven't got a clue." She gave a soft smile. She was with Ink when it came to being clueless. She was clueless herself. "What about you? What's your opinion on love?"
Sage had never really been told about love or at least not the right definition of it. She was told the evil definition, or at least thats what she called it. She remembered sitting by herself at the stump of an old tree when her mother walked up. Somehow the conversation led to the meaning of love. 'if you ever hear someone say, true love, dont believe them. its impossible for someone to fall in love, really. All males want something, and all females want something. Its like a deal really, of course, i guess love is what makes you pick your mate but your father and I have never believed in true love' Sage had never believed what her mother said, except that her father and mother had never believed in true love.
Sage believed in true love, but didnt really know what it was or how to explain it but she knew since she had asked Ink she owed him her explanation. "Honestly? Love is confusing for me, but I know that true love is something neither person can deny. It's like, they know their meant for each other and once they meet... their all each other think about. I guess thats the same as love but like i said love is confusing..." She let out a soft sigh, was that really her definition of love? Almost everything she had said, she felt with Ink. Maybe that wasnt the definition of love... maybe it was just how Sage thought it was. Maybe her and Ink werent in love, maybe sage just thought they were.
Laying her head down she spoke again "but about what you said, I think if two people really love each other... Then they dont care if they are together one day or the 1,000 days because once you find that someone, nothing can remove them from your heart." She had spoke without really thinking, and listening to herself she sounded so sure. So positive about love, even though she wasnt.

Ink still wasn't sure why Sage was asking him this, but he didn't want to push it. They were both pretty clueless about love when they spoke about it. It seemed that neither of them had experienced it, although then again, they were still young and budding. Sage had years ahead of her, but Ink, well, he had barely months. Sighing sadly, Ink tried not to think about that. He didn't want to bring Sage down with him, and then he'd have to admit what was wrong. Ink didn't dare tell Sage about his cancer, just in case she was disgusted and would walk away. Ink didn't want to lose the closest friend that Ink had ever made in his short life.
Moving his head, Ink looked carefully into Sage's eyes with a frown. Then again, although they both seemed clueless, it sounded as though Sage knew what she was talking about, as though she had experienced love before. But surely she was too young for that, yet? Who had she loved? Ink didn't want to ask, just in case it was a tough subject for her, but it ached his heart to think of another dog in Sage's life. Ink didn't know why. They were just friends, just friends, and that's all they'd ever be.
"Wise words from a young dog," Ink said with a smile as he licked the side of her head with his long, pink tongue. Outside it didn't seem like the storm was letting up, so he expected that they'd have to sleep here tonight and hope it had all calmed down in the morning.

Sage had enough. She didnt know why she had brought up the subject of love but now everything was all tense and weird. She didnt like feeling like this with Ink. Not with Ink. They could talk with each other, usually, without worrying about hitting a bad spot or something awkward and now here she was unable to think of what to say.
"Wise words from a young dog," Ink was right, Sage had no idea where all that wisdom of love had come from. She had never been in love or even been properly told about it so how did she know so much? Deep down she knew why but didnt want to say something. Sooner or later Sage would have to admit she loved Ink, but that day was not today because it seemed the subject of love was definately a sore spot or at least an awkward one.
Sighing, she spoke "Eh, yeah. I dont know where that came from. How can I know so much about love yet my parents never even taught me the right meaning of it." She wasnt really asking Ink for an anwser but she wouldnt have been mad if he had answered it. She just wanted to put the fact out there that she didnt know where all those 'wise words' had came from.
Giving off a slight yawn, Sage snuggled up to Ink and whispered softly "Good night, Ink" closing her eyes a sentence -or whatever- appeared in her head and Sage almost shook her head in strong confusion because those three words were I love you.
OOC: yeah so, it sucks I know but oh wellz.

Ink shrugged. Maybe love was a natural instinct, ingrained in Sage's knowledge like so. It wouldn't be surprising if it was. Ink suddenly realised that it was now night time, a thick blanket of dark blue hung over the sky as the sun disappeared over the horizon. They'd miss the sunset from talking so much, but then again, they'd seen the sunset together before. Sadly, there were no stars to look up at, as thick, black clouds loomed over them, crying out their tears and flooding the city below. Ink didn't mind, though, as he had Sage with him and that's all that mattered. Closing his eyes and resting his head on the warm cushion that was Sage, he smiled happily, "G'night, Sage." He yawned, before drifting off into an easy sleep.
Morning came and the sunlight made Ink wince as he blinked his eyes open. The rain had stopped momentarily, showing the blue skies up above. Perking his head up and twitching his ears, Ink looked down at the sleeping Sage, licking her ear tenderly, before standing up and stretching his gangly legs. It seemed, luckily, that today was going to be a moderate day. The pain in his stomach was only a dull throb, meaning that he'd at least be able to get down from the mountain. Walking out of the cave, he looked down at the steep drop before him, eyes wide with wonder as he stared at the deathly fall. No dog nor cat would survive if they fell down there.
As his eyes looked over at the city, he choked out a surprised breath at what he saw. Water. More water than he could imagine. A lot of the city was submerged in the glistening water, tauntingly showing just how dangerous it could be. Had it really rained that much as they'd been sleeping? Not only that, but it didn't look like the skies were done with Hexasol yet. The clouds looming closer were a thick black, probably carrying a thunderstorm in its wake. Ink didn't think they'd be going back to Hexaol just yet.
"Sage, wake up and look at this!" |

Action. thoughts "Speech."
Sage woke when she felt a familiar lick touch her skin. She giggled softly and rolled over on her back whil Ink stepped out of the cave to see the city. Letting out a small yawn sage smiled out of happinesss and relief. She had slep wonderfully last night considering the awkwardness that had occured in their last night conversation. Usually she loved to dream but lately her dreams had been really strange and this confused her. Although last night she hadnt dreamt a bit she rested peacefully with Ink by her side and no confusion. She was over yesterday -- sort of and was ready to spend the day with Ink.
It was then she heard Ink call her to come quickly and in the position she was in she couldnt really see where he was so automatically she assumed he had fallen. She barely had a chance to breath before she was up off her back and hopped out of the cave. Before she could scream she realized Ink was fine that he was just looking out into the --- flooded city! Her eyes quickly scanned the view infront of her and it was true, the city was flooded. Hardly anything was dry, had the rain really been that bad last night? Had she really missed a flood?!
"Oh! Ink imagine all the young ones down there and the helpless elders. Oh! Gosh,... im so glad your here instead of there you couldnt imagine what id do if you were in that flood." Ok, so she was being quite the drama pup but if someone really thought about it they'd see what sage was talking about. Many young ones dont have the strength to survive a flood and neither do many elders, even if they have a person to help them its most likely that they'd die from sickness. It really was sad and Sage hated to think of Ink down there in the flood but she calmed down once she remembered. Ink was here with her on the mountain that was all that mattered. The one she really cared about was safe. It seemed selfish but she couldnt lose Ink.
