He'd been wandering the alleys for some time now, not all of the extensive back passages belonged to Iris despite what many believed. The tall black wolf too had assumed that they had indeed been under control until hunger and curiosity drove him closer. The Iris scent was close indeed but the almost black back alleys that he slunk along were devoid of the territory markings. The drought seemed to have killed off half the prey in Hexasol, and for loners like himself times were hard. Although the temperature had indeed been cooling down in comparison to earlier months, today had been for some reason been a scorcher. Ares had been built for subzero temperatures, his fur had several insulating layers to it and so the heat made him feel slightly ill. Surely autumn would arrive any day now, he'd been waiting for so long it seemed.
Ares was certainly not built to keep cool, in fact quite the opposite. His thick multi-layered shaggy pelt was perfectly designed to insulate and keep even the lowest of temperatures from killing him off. The Gray wolf was modeled to survive in the harsh glacial winters of Yellowstone National Park, not these sweltering European summers. Still, hunger tore at his ravaged empty stomach and the large thin male slunk forth through the darkness like a sly shadow. His senses tuned into tracing every possible sign that would lead him to food, his first decent meal in almost five days. Five long, torturous days in which the sun's warmth sucked him dry. Ares forced himself to refrain from panting, and finally he picked up the rank scent of a large alley rat. The huge, bony canine froze in his tracks. Large ears curved forwards, blazing amber eyes locked onto a squatting figure about twenty metres away. Ares's lip curled in feral anticipation.
He crept closer, one silent paw after another, body instinctively low to the ground. The wolf was a predator, a hunter and this was one victim that would not get away. Not this time. His tail fluffed up in excitement, as he finally slithered within charging range. BAM. He bolted from his position, lunging towards the rat that squealed loudly and tore off down the narrow alley. Ares snarled and pursued the little devil, closing now as his ebonite fur brushed against the dirty walls. He was tiring however, his breath coming in heavy pants and his legs began to ache. The male was weak despite his superior breeding, and his stomach ran on empty. One last push and there, his powerful jaws crushed the rodents' back legs into jelly. Ares skidded to an ungraceful halt and shook his head violently, resulting in the prey ripping apart; dying slowly and painfully. The wolf silenced it's agonized screams by snapping it's jaw off and finally tearing it's throat out.
The blood seeped into his parched throat and Ares flopped to the ground, feeling weary but triumphant. It was only after he had devoured the brutish rat in a few desperate mouthfuls that he realized something; he had chased his prey deep into Iris Territory. The stench of felines made his snout wrinkled and he curled his lips in distaste. Currently, the male had nothing against cats but instinctively their scent made his skin crawl. He glanced about, sniffing for the border markers that he had passed a while back and sighed. Perhaps he should move on out before a passing feline caught onto his tired, wolfish odor but his muscles ached from the chase and Ares was very hot. He panted loudly, his bold smoldering eyes glaring warily into the shadows of the alleyways. Despite his usual eagerness for a good fight, Ares had been weakened by the lack of prey this summer, and the brutal heat. He hoped that they would not find him, Ares was in no mood for a battle for he had a sneaking suspicion that he would not win.

Who did Panja think he was? The mighty leader of the Iris Pride? Hah! Not likely. He had wanted a truce between the Iris Pride and the Tempest Pack, and what had he gotten out of it? Nothing but making a fool out of himself – and even bigger fool than he was already to be precise. And I who thought that bulk couldn’t sink any deeper, she thought darkly as she walked nonchalantly in the alleyways. Something needed to happen yes, but it certainly shouldn’t be something peaceful. The young lioness was becoming impatient. She had been to a meeting full of inferior canines and she hadn’t gotten permission to kill any of them. Geez, they had had the chance to kill Brooke, Hueso AND some of the General’s pathetic offspring at the same time! What a blow that would have been to the Tempest Pack! But oh no, Panja had wanted to play a pacifist instead of using the advantage of three big felines’ strength.
Yes, something had to happen. She wanted to get out her anger on someone and a canine would be preferable. She missed the cries which had echoed in the hallways of Huntington hospital’s top floor and after the building had been blown up, the Iris Pride just hadn’t gotten as many prisoners as the lioness wished. Florence wouldn’t be satisfied if she saw the state which the Iris Pride was in.
She would be furious.
Kira had been just as angry with her mother as with Panja after she had found out that her teacher and mother had become mates, but after her mother’s death, Kira was unsure what to feel about her deceased mother. The former, glorious, leader of the Iris Pride. Florence had been a much better leader than Panja. If Panja was just half as good as she had been… It was then a somehow familiar scent caught her nostrils. It was the stench of a canine – and on Iris territory. ”Just my luck,“ she snickered. This was her opportunity to get what she needed. A toy. A little, plushy wolf doll which she could play around with. Oh yes, it was just what she needed. And if Panja doesn’t want to do a thing in this war, I will, she thought with satisfaction and began to stalk the wolf on his tour in the alleys.
Approaching the male trespasser, Kira soon realized that the wolf unfortunately wasn’t from the Tempest pack. But oh well, it didn’t really matter did it? It would certainly have been a bonus, but if he was a loner, so be it. He was a canine nonetheless and that inferior race just begged to be punished.
Walking in the shadows of the alley, Kira now found her target – a black male wolf. He was clearly older than her, but a lone wolf was no match for a lioness even though Kira only was two years of age. And a wolf as thin as this one was nothing but prey for Kira. ”Well, well, well, what have we here?” Her question echoed softly in the alleyways as she emerged from the shadows, her amber eyes resting on the dark creature. ”A little guest who has come to crash the party,” she chuckled in a conclusion and straightened herself, proving herself superior to the wolf. ”Now tell me, loverboy, what makes you think you have the permission to have a share of all the fun?” she asked spitefully with a toothy grin, taunting the canine.

Ares couldn't quite fathom why he had failed to find and catch any prey over the past four months, but he put it down to the fact that the summer had been nastily, desperately hot; not to mention the drought. Prey was scarce and living on your own was far from easy, not to mention as an incredibly large animal he had to catch a good deal of prey for his hunger to be satisfied. He remembered the early days when he lived in savage wilderness, sure it had been hard, brutal even. Yet he had been surrounded by his family, his pack that had resided in their territory for centuries, they worked together as a team and always pulled through everything and anything that was thrown their way. Now it was different, completely different in fact. He was alone, with nobody to look out for him or help catch food but of course Ares was not even close to complaining. The nomadic male enjoyed the freedom of being able to do what he wanted when he wanted, not to mention the ability to court several girls at once without any judgement. The ebony male smirked to himself as he licked the bloody remnants from his strong jaws.
He supposed he'd better head on out before someone, or something, caught up. Heaving himself almost lazily to his large paws, the thin beast took two steps before he stopped. Ares glanced over his shoulder, narrowing his blazing amber eyes into the shadows for he thought he had heard a low mutter in the distance. His pricked ears swerved this way and that, attempting to pick anything within range up. That was when he heard the heavy, ominous sound of a big cat's paws padding through the narrow alley. The canine turned his body towards the spine-tingling sound, though he remained solemnly calm as per usual. Through expressionless eyes Ares stared, sitting down and curling his thick tail around his body as the lioness came into sight. She was tall, lean and muscular with a distinctive cold glint in her eyes. Ares raised any eyebrow at the female, though a flicker of worry pricked him; she quite clearly meant him grievous harm. Any fool could see that by the way she sneered darkly at him, her gaze mocking him cruelly.
Before the drought and lack of food had weakened him, and he had been a powerful muscular machine, Ares would quite literally have jumped at the chance to engage battle with a lion. Both verbally and physically. He enjoyed fighting, he relished the thrill of killing but .. he was a sore loser, even he knew that. What was the point in playing the game when you already knew the outcome? No thankyou. The black male sat watching the golden huntress, mocking her with his glittering amber eyes; his tail twitching across his large paws. Skinny and tired as he was, Ares was not a weakling and no way would he let this sarky cat get the better of him. Sure, he was not a Tempest dog and he did not hate or dislike felines in the slightest but he was not going to stand by and let anybody push him around. He smirked at her words, rolling his eyes in amusement. "Loverboy? Oh sweetcheeks, you're quite the seductress aren't you. Now I am no selfish doggie, but please tell me what makes you think I'd tell you. "

The skinny wolf had turned to face her, and oh how miserable he looked! Now that was something she needed to do something about. At first, she would make sure that his pretty pelt would soak in his own blood. And then, afterwards, she would make sure that he lost a few kilograms – after all, it was the new fashion to be able to see your ribcage wasn’t it? She and her fellow felines would make sure that this wolf would look absolutely gorgerous soon enough. He would become a true role model for the whole canine race. What a nice little doll he would be – tiny and easy to push around. The thought of being able to do whatever she wanted with this wolf made a shiver of pleasure run up her spine. But she just needed to catch the trespasser first. And she would, oh yes, she knew she would get him. After all, how could she let an opportunity like this slip by? Getting a fine little toy like this wolf would for sure make her forget everything about Panja for a while, and that was just what she needed.
It was clear that the canine wanted a fight, and Kira couldn’t have wished for more. There wasn’t any fun in just picking him up like a little Barbie. Besides, she really wished to see his red blood colouring his own black pelt not to mention her sharp claws. As the canine spoke up, the lioness tilted her head a little to the side and perked up her ears. "Now… you wound me, she said shortly, coldheartedly. Did that wolf just speak up to her? Oh no, that was just wrong, plain wrong. She liked that he wanted a fight, but he wasn’t going to lead the show like he thought he did now. If there was one of them who was going to lead, then it was her. Her asking the questions, her coming with the sarcastic comments.
You see, it is sad, very… sad to see how low the canine race has fallen - you think you have the right to say what you want.” She narrowed her eyes and lowered her head as she began to giggle, but her girlish giggle quickly escalated to a mad laugh, almost forcing it out from her parted lips. “What happened?” she asked, now looking at him again. The slightly crazed grin still rested on her dark lips and the craze was also blazing out in her pretty, brown eyes as she asked him the question, but it suddenly disappeared when she continued. Her words were then very serious, as when a teacher tries to explain something of dire importance to a student, slow, to make sure it sank in. “What comes out of your mouth, just proves, that we felines, aren’t doing, a good. Enough. Job,” she ended, dictating her last words. “But have no worries, doggie,” she said, slightly emphasizing his little nickname. “I will make sure that you are taken well care of. You see, I will make sure, personally, that you soon will learn your rightful place as the weakest link. We can’t have a handsome, little wolf like you running around uneducated now can we, she said, truly believing her own words. The felines were the superior race and the canines needed to learn that – by force if needed.
By force most preferred.
But she wouldn’t attack him. Not yet. But soon. Very soon. After all, talking too much was just too damn boring.

It made his thick pelt prickle in unease, she looked hungry, delighted almost. Happy that she had stumbled across his weaker self and it was this that put the large canine on edge. The black wolf would have preferred to have seen pure rage flashing across her dark eyes, instead he found deliriousness. He smirked slightly as she cocked her head and hissed lowly at him with a distinct peeved tone. "Now… you wound me," The ebony male curled his lip, a dirty little laugh snaking from his strong jaws; mocking her. It seemed the lioness was easier to wind up than he had originally thought, already she had revealed her short flaring temper. Something that could most definitely be used against her. The cat apparently believed herself to be God's Gift, well newsflash baby you're anything but gifted. Blazing amber eyes danced with amusement, clearly taunting his larger enemy.
Heavily-furred ears swiveled lazily from side to side, as if distracted by other more important sounds from afar. "You see, it is sad, very… sad to see how low the canine race has fallen - you think you have the right to say what you want.” Ares acted as if he wasn't even listening to what she was saying. Instead he rose to his thin limbs and padded back to where the remains of his kill lay, the tall underweight male snapped it up in a matter of seconds. Eating prey, that technically belonged to this little hoe, right before her eyes. A sardonic sneer toyed with his striking features as he swung his large skull round towards her golden frame. Acute hearing up the maniacal laugh and Ares snickered, what an absolute freak. Once every last bone had been crushed between his huge canines and strong jaws, the black wolf finally turned his attention back to the lioness, who had been ranting on in the background.
To be perfectly honest the wolf hadn't been listening to the lion. He didn't give two hoots about what she had to say because apparently she was a raving, self-assured lunatic; someone Ares had no interest in chatting to. Whether the girl liked it or not, he wasn't going to hang around here any longer. His patience had worn thin and he was actually pretty tired after the hunt. "You're boring me, slut. I didn't listen to a word you just said because frankly, it's all a bit political for my liking. But I'm a nice guy and I for one believe in second chances. You have three seconds to entertain me, after that I'm going. You're time starts now." Something told Ares that this lady wasn't going to take kindly to what he had just said, in fact she might well go ahead and attack him. This hadn't exactly been what he had set out to achieve but nevertheless he'd got himself in this situation, may as well see it through.
"By the way beautiful, the name's Ares."

[/b] She laughed at his comment, continuing it for longer than necessary. ”Oh you big brute, what a bad dog you are! Sorry for you, I don’t date on the first encounter,” she exclaimed, her last words coming out in a girly chuckle. ”And as for counting, I guess you’re not very good at it… But it must me my girly charm which has made you stay for so long.” She looked at him with pure interest as he introduced himself. How self-centered he must be since he just vomited out about himself – she didn’t even have to ask him any questions! ”So, Ares… I suppose I should be polite and introduce myself as well. I’m Kira. And we’re going to learn each other a little better to know,” she said almost flirtingly to the black wolf as she started to circle him.
”You see Ares, I can’t let you go – not even if I wanted to! It would just look really bad on my reputation, I’m sure you understand that. Just remember that it isn’t personally… what am I saying? Oh course it’s personally! You’re a canine after all. But don’t worry, I’ll give you a nice place to stay for the winter,” she said with a smirk, then lunging at him. Her claws were out, ready to tear in his flesh instead of grabbing him. No, she would play a little with him first so that she would be the first Iris feline to torture him before he would enjoy his permanent stay in the slaughterhouse. How nice she was actually, running around the pride’s territory and picking up a big wolf which the whole pride could have fun to play with. Oh yes, he would surely be their new chew toy. He was thin already, but Kira new better than to underestimate him – she’d already done that with Brooke, and now standing in front of a wolf, she knew he would be stronger than her. Not that she feared that he would be able to give her any fatal injuries, but she had no interest in being stupid and getting wounded. She liked the freedom at roaming around as she liked – a week locked in a room because of injuries wasn’t really in her interest, so she wouldn’t mind being just a little careful instead of being too reckless.

Ares rose to his large paws, his eyes blazing with a cold confidence. He smirked dirtily as she flirted with him and introduced herself, Kira. The name stirred nothing within him, this bitch wasn't anything special. No doubt she was just one in a dozen crazy-ass kitties, used and abused by the ruthlessness that dominated their lives. The wolf by this time had started to back away from her, though was not foolish enough to turn around completely. That would be an obvious cue for Kira to pounce and snap his neck like an old toy. The ebonite male growled lowly, he'd had enough, time to go.
Just as he was about to turn around and trot away, Ares spied the lioness leaping forward and closing the metres between them. The canine tensed and whirled around to face her straight, his mind working overtime. He hunkered lower to the ground and narrowed his smoldering amber eyes in defiance. Something ancient snarled from within, a timeless desire to fight for survival and so the thin but intelligent wolf sprung to meet his maker. At the last millisecond, Ares dodged to the side though leaned over to aim a bite along her shoulder as he ran past. It was over far too quickly and the sudden activity had already weakened him further! Laziness and lack of decent food had caused his fitness and strength to deplete to dangerously low levels.
He was uncertain of his fate, knowing that now he had engaged with Kira she would not hold back. There was no time for words, not now, not for Ares anyway. The black wolf breathed heavily and though he remained standing, one could see his limbs shaking slightly as they struggled to keep him from flopping down. His muscles burned with effort of the attack and Ares snarled inwardly once more, though this time in frustration at himself. Had Ares been less skilled and experienced, he would have been injured by that first attempt by the lioness. However it was only a matter of time before her size and power outweighed his wits, he could not let that happen.

She didn’t get him in her first try. Somehow the wolf managed to get out of her grasp in the last second. Aw, too bad, she thought as she saw her prey escape from her claws. Who’d have thought that a male as skinny as him would be able to dodge her? Oh well, she would make sure he wouldn’t be as lucky next time. At least he wasn’t trying to run away like a coward with his tail between his legs. Actually, just as she thought he would do just so, he turned to face her. A glint of excitement played in her eyes as she couldn’t wait to try out the strength of an adult wolf. When the wolf darted toward her, as if he wanted to meet her head on, Kira wanted to laugh at the canine’s foolishness but at the same time, she somehow knew that a move like that would make it too easy for her to get him.
And she was just right. She’d run forward to meet him as well, but in the last second the wolf turned and opened his jaws to close them around her left shoulder. His dangerous fangs hardly got her though – they met her thin skin and drew small lines of dripping blood, but it was no wound. Nothing that needed much care. She looked down at her shoulder where the blood slowly coloured her dusty golden skin. The look in her eyes was almost disappointed. ”I’d thought you’d be able to do better than that,” she said in a dark tone that matched the disappointed look in her brown eyes before she licked the red liquid with her rough tongue. She then shot a glance at the wolf, ebonite fur shaking with the rest of his body from the effort.
Pathetic.
The word echoed venomously in her mind as she took in the sight of the dark creature in front of her. Maybe it would even had been better if he’d taken his tail between his legs and run away while he could. But now it was clearly too late for him. A low snarl from her throat told the wolf that he better prepared himself. Because there was no way she wanted to let him get out of here. She wouldn’t kill him, at all. She would take him to the slaughterhouse, and she would make sure that his permanent stay wouldn’t be pleasant. And now when it was clear that Ares had a death wish, Kira would partly make sure to make his dream come true. Well, at least she would make him want to die even more, because she would only kill him mentally. It was then she chuckled, fire in her eyes, and ran to try to take him one more time with her razor sharp claws, but this time, while she at first aimed at his flank, she turned in the last second to try to take a bite of is fragile back instead.

He could not let himself be sunk by this iceberg that threatened his life, his freedom. No, Ares wouldn't allow his body to give up on him just yet despite his malnutrition and frailness. Had he been in prime condition, muscular, well-fed, fit, there would have been no problem. The canine would have been able to fight the lioness relentlessly and mercilessly due to his incredible stamina and strength that came with his breeding. Yet this long, hot, foodless summer had truly taken it's toll on the feral dog. Kira had an entire pride to rely on for regular food and safety, not to mention a large and fruitful territory. Ares on the other hand had been kicked from one patch of land to another, where prey was scarce and the shadows were saturated with dogs and cats alike; waiting to defend their areas.
It was in many ways, an unfair battle. Amber eyes blazed furiously with a desire, an instinct to stand face the psychotic girl with defiance. He curled back dark lips and raised an eyebrow, luring her closer, inviting her in. Though his bite had barely drawn blood to the lioness, Ares was hardly surprised! He had put very little effort into trying to do her harm, it had been more of a last minute attention distracter. Whilst she was glancing down at her cut, and sneering it had given him seconds to gather himself up once more. The wolf terminated the shaking and held his head high. He smirked at her words and rolled his eyes in a mocking manner, as though she were a little cub who nothing of the real world. "You haven't seen anything yet dollface." Though his insides recoiled from the demonic guttural snarl that sounded into the darkening air, he refused to display a single flicker of emotion. Now was no time for weakness, the worst possible time in fact. It could not be tolerated by either of them.
Once more the lioness lunged forward, Ares tensed his muscles in preparation and stared into her eyes. He studied and scanned his opponents body for any signal, any clue, as to what she was planning. It was her fiery eyes that gave her away. Though her body and paws stretched out for his skinny flank, the bitch's hard eyes flickered momentarily to his spine. Ares knew that if he made the wrong move his life could be over in a second but sometimes you had to take a gamble. Instead of playing into her huge paws, the smaller male shuffled backwards with his ears flattened furiously against his large skull. This time however he wasn't quite quick enough and though his back was out of the firing line, her claws clipped his muzzle sharply. His head snapped to the right but instinctively he snapped down on the paw that had struck him; hoping to declaw her at least if he aimed rightly.
Pain shot through him hard and fast however, emanating from the left side of his muzzle. The shock had numbed it for the first few seconds but now the agony hit the wolf like a wall of knives. The canine hissed lowly in the direction of the cat, though right now the lioness was the least of his worries. As Ares made a terrible discovery, his heart dropped through his ribcage at the realisation. The realisation that his upper lip and muzzle had been completely ripped open and was hanging in an ugly manner; split in two. No, not the face you WHORE. Anything but the face. Oh hell no. Now real anger flared in his cold stare, and it transformed him completely. "Big mistake." He snarled icily, his hackles bristling hostilely. Mustering all the strength in his body despite the blood that seeped from the gash on his muzzle, Ares darted forward; aiming a powerful bone-crunching snap at her limb. Adrenalin was the only thing keeping him going now, who knew how long the tiring wolf could last.

She didn’t catch his spine but got his face instead. Who would have known that he could look even uglier than he already did? What a pathetic dog. Oh well, she would be even meaner towards him while he was having fun in the slaughterhouse. She would make him mad, she would make him cry out in pain. She could already see the fierceness burning in Ares’ eyes. He clearly wanted to kill her, and that was also how she wanted their relationship to be: full of hatred. The difference was just that she was the one who would kill him.
She sneered at his icy snarl. ”I wish I could say ‘meet your creator,’ but that would be too mercifully of me. And I’m not going to give a dog a merciful death,” she grinned and leapt forward to meet his blow. Canines simply didn’t deserve anything merciful. They should suffer, and she would make sure to see them burn. She tried to turn her body to avoid the ebony wolf’s blow, but she’d clearly infuriated him more than she’d expected. Ares was faster than she’d calculated him to be and she roared as his teeth painfully sank into her shoulder. ”What connection,” she snarled through clenched teeth. But now when we’re together- she said as she unsheathed her claws, ”-I will make you suffer.” She parted her own fangs in a fearless snarl as she tensed all the muscles in her body. The blood from her shoulder started to drip down on the ground as she rose on two legs, aiming her free paw at his flank to tear the flesh from his bones. At the same time she pushed her massive body against his, trying to force him to the ground where she would pin him to the cold concrete. Ares, just as well as her, would know that if she first got him down, his tired body wouldn’t be able to get him away from her. She knew he would try to get away from her now, he would probably use all his last strength to get away, so Kira prepared herself. There was no way she would let him go now.

He shook off her vicious, mocking words with a cold glare as he hung onto her shoulder with everything he had. The wolf felt his huge canines sinking into her vulnerable flesh, so very satisfying. Her blood seeped into his jaws and he relished the delicious warmth that replenished his dry mouth. Ares growled through his teeth at her calculating words, hearing the unsheathing of her claws he suddenly realised her plan. The ebony male released his grip and turned as fast as his weakened body could take, but he just wasn't fast enough. Now facing away from her in an attempt to dart away, the large canidae felt her huge claws rake at his hips. The force of the blow knocked his frail back legs to the ground, leaving his front end desperately trying to scramble away. Snarling and howling furiously in agony, Ares felt the tremble of fear reverberate in his chest as he realised he was big trouble.
The sudden heavy weight of Kira smashed the black wolf to the ground, rolling onto his back and now completely vulnerable to attack. He was struggling to breathe now, his ribcage heaving with the stress of a lioness on top. Ares was losing blood fast from the large gash on his hips, and as Kira unleashed her violent fury upon his failing body the black wolf knew it was over. He had given his best and for once, his best just had not been enough. He clamped his jaws shut in his final efforts, she would have his body but she would not have his screams. Darkness encroached threateningly, no he had to stay awake, no. Stop. No! Yet the warm blackness was just so comforting.. **fade out**
