PERSONALITY |
mute.
Noelani doesn't speak - no, she can't speak. She may start to open her mouth, to form words, but they die before they manage to come out. After trying so hard, Noelani has pretty much given up trying to speak through her voice. Instead, she's known to use exaggerated body language to try and get her point across.
skittish.
It isn't necessarily that Noelani is fearful or frightened; rather, she does not warm up to those she doesn't know, and is known to practically shout her discomfort through her body. She avoids eye contact, consistently keeps her head and upper body angled away, and in some cases, may even cower.
opinionated.
You may be wondering just how a canine can share their opinions if they haven't a voice to speak them. Well, Noelani has certainly found a way to do this. Using her eyes, tail, and raised lip, Noelani can easily get her point across when she dislikes something. And even if others try to ignore her, Noelani will quickly find a way to gain their attention for the sole purpose of letting her thoughts be known. In cases such as that, her dislike for attention is momentarily forgotten, until after she's already being stared at.
wallflower.
Even if Noelani could speak, she probably wouldn't say much. She enjoys laying in a corner and watching the way others interact. She enjoys watching canines and felines interact. It warms her heart to watch the familial way canines are capable of treating others in hard times.
friendly.
Noelani will rarely choose to chase off another, though at first she's not exactly the best companion. Once she is comfortable around another's presence, Noelani loosens up a bit and shows more of her sunshiny attitude. Her smiles are small and ghostly; but they're there, for her companions to see. Noelani is not the type to bounce around in her giddiness; rather, she is seemingly more elegant and controlled in her interactions, though the excitement is clear in her dark eyes.
protective.
If you belong in the same pack Noelani does, consider yourself family. And if you're family, consider yourself protected. Her sweet, quiet, ghostly nature is an illusion to the true power behind her jaws. Although Noelani would rather not hurt others, even her worst enemies, it is simply a natural reaction to protect what is precious to her.
loyal.
If you are family to Noelani, she will remain loyal to you until the day to betray the rest of the family. Although it's relatively easy to gain her loyalty if you're part of the family, it's certainly more difficult if you're part of an outside pack, or if you share different beliefs. Noelani can almost be naively loyal; standing beside her family even if they are wrong.
guarded.
Noelani puts walls up, keeping others out. She tends to be secretive, almost mysterious in a way. She mostly keeps to herself when in new situations. When others ask about her personal life, Noelani offers very vague responses, keeping her personal life to herself.
slow to trust.
Even in her own family, Noelani finds it difficult to trust others. She is usually expecting others to hurt her in some way, and that can sometimes be projected in the way she interacts. There are times when Noelani may appear snappy or antisocial, but these are simply ways to help her protect herself.
motherly.
One being that she will always find herself falling head over heels for, are pups or other canines younger than herself. She enjoys their enthusiastic play, and often, Noelani can be found rolling around with them. She also tends to be extremely protective over pups, often staying within sight of them.• likes | Running. Playing in water. Puppies. Kittens. Observing. Snow. Food. Rain.

Her face is white, with pink skin. The insides of her ears are pink. Noelani has a thin neck, but her fur makes it look about three inches thicker. The white fur around her neck is roughly two to three inches long. She has thin shoulders and a thin chest. An off-white color touches her back, with a light blonde coloring her shoulders. The color lightens back to white as it runs down to her chest and tummy. HISTORY |
Amaterasu and Enenra were both purebred Akita Inus, going to be used for breeding. When the humans died, both dogs escaped from their pens, and, as nature took over, Enenra wooed Amaterasu to pass on his lineage. Amaterasu was a smart canine, and knew that once the deed was done, Enenra would go his own way. And he did.
Amaterasu raised her pups with a gentle tongue. She was quiet, and did not growl or snap at her puppies. Although she was kind, Amaterasu was also firm. She made sure her pups had boundaries and rules, and followed those rules.
From the beginning, there was obviously something wrong with Noelani. She was the smallest of the litter, and she did not cry nor whimper like the other pups. Amaterasu was concerned, but Noelani grew at the same speed as the rest of the pups; even if she was small. Thankfully, because the litter was quite small, Noelani was capable of getting enough nutrients to keep from getting too far behind. Amaterasu didn't need to worry too much. Noelani was growing.
All four of the pups grew quickly. Amaterasu made sure to teach them about poisonous plants. Because Amaterasu had previously been owned, she had limited hunting experience. Instead, she taught her pups how to scavenge. When she had the chance, she would demonstrate proper hunting techniques, even if she wasn't always successful.
Amaterasu spent much of her time trying to teach her pups proper etiquette, teaching them to be tolerable toward other creatures. She taught her pups to thank the Gods and Goddesses when they were successful at hunting.
By the time the pups were a year old, they had learned manners, scavenging skills, and even hunting skills. Even Amaterasu had gotten better at hunting. Noelani's siblings were ready to leave. She watched them leave with a heavy heart, but when she looked at her mother, Noelani knew that it was for the best. Amaterasu was clearly tired. Noelani remembered that her mother was quite old, being six years when the humans died. Noelani stayed, helping to care for her mother, until Amaterasu finally passed on in her sleep.
Noelani, two years old now, set off on her own.

SAMPLE |
Damn it. Damn it all. Why wasn't anything working. Adder kept his uncertainty hidden this time, trying to keep his expression constant. He did not want Stark to think that he was really getting to him, really making him think. It just... wouldn't be right. Why couldn't Stark just move on? Adder didn't care if he had to watch Stark be in love with another. If Stark was happy, Adder would be happy.
Okay, so, that was pretty much a lie. A part of him knew that if the Basenji got himself a mate, it would take everything in his soul not to rip apart the offending male. And he probably wouldn't succeed. Death Adder never did have very good self-control, and something so emotional would definitely cause for action.
Adder knew just how possessive and absolutely driven Stark could be. It was one of the things he loved so much about his companion; the unpredictability that Stark brought along actually gave Adder a love for life itself. Everything was seen differently, everything was felt differently. Hell, everything was different. Nothing really mattered when he was with Stark, except that he was with Stark.
And that, admittedly, was a bit overwhelming.
Watching how easily Stark's body became more easy-going, it almost made Adder want to jump back into their routine of playful, meaningless banter. He could easily remember their fights, though they were usually half-hearted and forgotten the next day. Watching Stark wag his tail and smile made Adder want to do the same. And when he spoke again, claiming to have changed his mind, the Culpeo had to swallow the laughter that threatened to curl his lips.
Why did this have to be so complicated? Adder shook his head with a sigh. "You never were a very decisive person." He mumbled, dark eyes looking off to the side as he remembered the many times he'd spent with Stark as the Basenji tried to make decisions. However, he did have to give the dog credit. Usually, when he did finally decide something, he stuck to it. After all, as he said himself, he was stubborn.
There was a brief lull of silence, before Stark yet again spoke, and the truth that Adder heard in that sentence warmed his heart. He kept his face blank, though, devoid of the sudden wealth of emotions he was feeling. Trying to keep the longing, the adoration, and the desire at bay, he forced himself to turn away from Stark, his body rigid, stiff. He forced himself to take a step away from the Basenji, the action tugging at his heart, like it was ripping itself from his chest. "You're a fool, Stark." He growled out, frustrated - with both himself, and Stark.
