The night was silent, apart from the chirping of crickets, as a dark shape bounded along the rooftops of Hexasol, a territory belonging to the Iris Pride. This fact was well known to the dark figure, whose cobalt eye glittered in the light of the moon above his head. finally he came to a stop, leaping atop an old chimney to stare up at the stars. He sighed. Life in the Pride had been taking a turn for the worse. They seemed to be the targets of almost every attack coming to Hexasol, the drought made hunting even worse than usual, and if that wasn't bad enough, to many cats had been dieing in these attacks. The tom drooped his head. He didn't even know what had happened to the she cat he had found himself gravitating towards, he had gone to see her one day and she had just been... gone. He'd kept himself busy since then, going out on patrol many times a day, hunitng for the Pride, even offering to take up guard posts for some of the other warriors, especially the ones with mates to return to and spend time with, who was he to deny them time with their loved ones when they ran such dangerous lives? Cobalt eyes closed to banish away horrible thoughts of the past, and his head shook violently. Another heaved sigh and the tom lifted his eyes to the sky.
"What have we done to deserve this? I understand that some of our Pride may deserve to be battered down by whatever karma the higher powers want to use, but what of those of us who have done nothing to wrong you? Why must life be so cruel to those who do not deserve it? I admit, I've done wrong in the past, but nothing so cruel or horrid as to deserve loosing everything I ever cared about." He whispered the last bit, choking back the emotions that threatened to boil over. He sat there, head hanging and tail limp, waiting for the night to come to an end.
