Maybe this is a silly question, but when a thread has a name or two in brackets after the title, does that mean it's for those characters only, as in a private thread? Because I see some threads say "open" in brackets. So I'm just a little confused and I don't wanna butt in where I don't belong :)

Yeah, usually if there is a name beside the thread title, that thread is meant only for a certain person. If an “open” is put beside the title, it means just what it says – it’s an open thread for anyone to join in on (:
