The day was promising to be a scorcher, prompting many to seek shade and water rather than fight out any disputes or even enjoy the land. The beach seemed like an almost ideal spot this time of day, though the sand was hot enough to cause blisters to the paws of any that so much as took a normal step. With this fact and mind and the proof at his paws, the large wolf ran over the sand, not letting his heat-sensitive pads touch the disabling sand any longer than necessary. His long legs and lean muscles quickly propelled him across the stretch of beach and over to the water, which he launched himself into. Sighing in immense relief, the wolf paddles around for a bit, ducking his head under every-now-and-then, letting the cool water drench him. After a few minutes of playing around, the brute swam back to shore and laid down in the cool, packed sand to dry, though his belly and legs were still being attacked by the edges of the waves that rolled in. As he'd shed out heavily during the hot summer, his snowy coat now clung to his lean frame, and he hadn't bothered to shake it out. The water had dulled the brilliant shade of his fur, but once the sun stole the moisture away, it would return to an amazing light reflector that seemed intent on blinding anyone withing viewing distance.
Now that his body temperature was at a more comfortable level and the heat actually felt nice, he could focus on his previous task: finding someone that could help him. There were a few others around him, mostly canines, he saw, and he began to scan for someone he felt like approaching that might be able to give him the information he needed.

Many roads I have walked So many thoughts have filled my mind "The words I speak hold nothing but truth"

[/b] It was a hot day in the Hexasol summer but Rabba was hardly bothered. It was hot under his thick coat but being out amongst his people was much more important than his own needs of being cool. The beach was a live to day with people enjoying the sun some even hunting or finding private spots of shade and all seemed at peace. Maw agape in short pants the old cat made his way across the grass to a shady spot under a tree. The crack in his leg had healed but it was still soar and pressure made is worst so he had to limp. Healers of the tribe had assured him that in time he would be able to walk with out a limp but had also given him the warning that the leg would never be the same. Well, it seemed time had finally caught up to him. Rabba was not young anymore, breaks took longer to heal if they ever did and he was learning this the hard way. Reaching the sand the dark cat plopped his rear down with a sigh glad to have his weight of the poor leg. Gingerly stretching it out he licked at the healed flesh where his hair was still trying to grow back. Massaging the leg with a good lick always made it feel better. When the shuffling of paws near him finally reached his failing ears the old cat looked up to see a little tabby tom racing over with a look of panic on his stripped face. “Rabba!” [/i]He cried coming over to stand in front of the deputy. “Rabba, there’s a wolf down in the water!”[/i] Though the young cat seemed alarmed the old feline just smiled. “Yes there are many wolves out on this fine day,”[/b] he replied. “But this ones not Lexis,”[/i] the little one whined. That caught the elders attention. “Tempest or loner?”[/b] he asked in a calm way. The little thing shrugged, “I don't know. I didn't get close enough to find out.”[/i] Giving the cat a nod Rabba hefted himself onto his feet. “Alright, make sure everyone keeps a safe distance until I know whats going on,”[/b] he told the little cat who took off with a nod as soon as the words had left the leopards lips. Making his way down to the sand was a bit of a task. The sand under the cooled grass shifted under his paws and it caused his leg to ache to have to work so much. Once to the edge of the sand Rabba looked out and spotted the white wolf laying in the sun as brightly as if he created his own light. Sun hot on his shoulders Rabba lifted his head and sniffed at the air. He couldn't get any scent but salt and gave up trying to figure out who this was. From the corner of his eyes he watched a mother yellow lab shoo her pups into the long grass and sighed. If this guy wasn't friendly Rabba knew he had no chance. “Excuse me!”[/b] He called down to the dog. “Can I help you with something friend?”[/b] Though this was a stranger he had nothing aggressive so far so why not give respect and kindness in the hope he might receive it? Though his voice was welcoming and kind the old cats eyes held wiriness. Trouble was the last thing they needed here. ---------------- Words:585 Notes:Rabba to the rescue!

Ice watched in curiosity as the few animals around him began to disperse, and it wasn't because of the heat. He wasn't projecting an aggressive energy. Maybe his presence alone was enough to scare them off, but why? Just as he was thinking about giving up and leaving, a large cat of some sort limped over to him. Ice stood up, both wary and curious of this stranger. He'd never seen a cat like this and didn't know what to expect. The cat was much smaller, about half his size and weight, with an interesting coat he hadn't seen on any other. He wondered what breed the cat was, but at the moment that wasn't important. When the spotted feline called out to him, though, he smiled, glad that someone had finally approached him and didn't seem to have the intent to attack. At least not yet. "I hope so," he called back in response, taking a step forward. "I was told to find the Lexis Tribe and talk to the one in charge about joining," he explained once the two were a little closer. "Would you happen to know who that is and where I can find them?" As the others hadn't really seemed approachable, he hadn't bothered to ask for help, fearing he'd only make them run faster before he even began to speak, though he couldn't figure out what it was about him that set everyone off. Even if this feline couldn't help him, at least he'd come over to see what was up. The cat was much smaller, about half his size and weight, with an interesting coat he hadn't seen on any other. He wondered what breed the cat was, but at the moment that wasn't important.

Many roads I have walked So many thoughts have filled my mind "The words I speak hold nothing but truth"
As the wolf stood the old cat held his ground rejecting the urge to back away and cower. He was the deputy of Lexis for the gods sakes! He would not cower to no body no matter his age or state of health. Listening to the canine Rabba's eyes softened and he smiled. “Streiter is our leader but he is quite busy. My name is Rabba and I am deputy here,” he said in a friendly tone. “Please forgive the skittish nature of everyone. In such tense times and attacks happening even with in our boarders one can ever be to careful,” he said in a sad tone tone with a soft shake of his head.
Backing further up onto the grass he smiled and motioned with his head toward the airport which held as the the headquarters for the Lexis tribe. “Come, let me show you around friend,” He said as he gingerly turned himself to head back.
Looking out toward the grass the dark leopard saw a few heads peeking out to peer at what was going on with fearful eyes. “Its alright everyone! He is a friend,” the old kind man called out to them and very slowly cats and dogs alike came out from their hiding spots whispering amongst each other. Giving them an encouraging smile he watched as more and more seemed to relax. Turning to look back at the wolf he waited with a warm gaze for him to come up beside him.

OOC: I apologize for not responding earlier and for the crappiness. Life tried to catch up with me.
IC: Ice caught a whiff of fear from the cat as he stood and refused to let it hurt him, instead making sure to remain submissive despite the difference in species. After all, he wasn't on land that belonged to him. As he listened to the cat speak, he mentally rolled the names mentioned over his tongue. Streiter and Rabba. Interesting names. He wondered what they meant. "Deputy? Then perhaps you could help me?" he asked hopefully. The term wasn't really known to him, but he'd heard it was a higher rank in packs that used it. Ice nodded sadly at the cat's next words, finally understanding why everyone had run. "Yes, I've heard some about the war. I hope your...tribe," he added, recalling the title the group had, "hasn't suffered too much." It saddened him to hear of animals fighting each other for so little. He understood that certain species were competitors, either for food or space, and so often fought when they came in contact, but he knew that both felines and canines could coexist under special circumstances, such as living with humans. Now that they were gone, though, it seemed both societies were now at war. But for what? All it would do in the end is destroy both of them and ruin countless innocent lives. So he'd thrown out some lines and learned there was a place where both cats and dogs lived together in peace and sought it out.
Rabba's next words brought the wolf back from his thoughts, and he smiled. "Thank you very much." Rabba moved off a bit and called out to prying eyes that Ice was a friend. The wolf wagged his tail slightly before catching up with the cat, whose species he still didn't know. 'Later,' he told himself. Right now he needed to know if Lexis could be his new pack.

Many roads I have walked So many thoughts have filled my mind "The words I speak hold nothing but truth"
Listening to the wolf with interest Rabba kept his expression welcoming and kind along with giving him a nod of confirmation when he again asked for help. Everyone seemed to need help now days. Loners on the streets, pawns in the war even the leaders thought they needed something but in truth no one needed everything they thought they did. The lexis man knew what he needed to function and survive but also knew what he wanted. He needed Filatweet in his life, the old man needed food, water, and sleep. Yet he wanted it to be a nice sunny day all year round, the health of his children, peace through out Hexasol, and wanted for every loner on the streets to know the peace of having a family. It was so odd how people thought, how children were raised, in todays world. Today was a different time and for the old dark leopard it was hard to keep up with the ideas of now.
War, it was the weeds within the garden of Eden. Eyes down cast on his paws Rabba let a soft sigh escape him. “We all have suffered but Lexis has escaped the worst of it,” replying softly he gave a little smile trying to reassure the young man that it wasn't as bad as it truly was. Iris pride and Tempest pack fought almost constantly loosing the pour lives of sons, daughters, husbands, wives, fathers, mothers, sisters and brothers. They lost people rarely but it was only those who left the boarders or where simply at the wrong place at the wrong time. So painful it was for him to imagine such things as soon as it managed to wiggle their way into his mind he pushed them out.
Moving away from beach Rabba smiled when the wolf wagged his tail and followed. “I do believe you will fit in nicely here. I'll show you around and help you get settled in,” a bit of a prance in his hobbled step he truly smiled. People could find peace and refuge here, that brought him all the joy he could ever want.

OOC: I'm so sorry I've been having bad computer problems on top of school (finally done for a few weeks!) and ended up forgetting about this when I managed to sneak on. I also apologize for the quality of this "post." IC: Ice smiled sadly at the cat's whispered words. "I'm glad to hear it," he muttered sincerely. He was happy that the Lexis Tribe seemed to be doing okay, but in his mind, this war was pointless and would only hurt everyone, even those not directly involved. The wolf followed after the cat, his spirits lightened by the potential home he'd found. "I do hope I find a place here." He was tired of wandering and trying to sort out which areas were friendly and which weren't. It wasn't natural for a healthy, sane wolf to be on his own, and the years were wearing him down. Maybe, just maybe, he finally had a place to rest his paws and not worry about being attacked. Despite his hardships, however, his spirit was still in tact, and so was the rest of him, something he was grateful for. He'd seen so many that had given up and fallen victim to their situation. He'd tried to help in whatever way he could, but usually it wasn't enough. And apparently it wasn't enough that Mother Nature had decided each life would be tested for its worth as the pointless war between felines and canines had killed so many, ruined so many lives, and added an unnecessary stress to the areas that were hit the hardest. It made him want to howl, sometimes, though with which emotion he wasn't sure. Usually it was sadness, rarely it was anger. Mostly he was just disappointed that his fellow animals would sink so low as to act like the humans that had ruined their home and caused their own extinction. He would never understand their mentality, and he couldn't understand why their broken footsteps would be followed by those who knew better. At least there were some who also believed the war had no merit, and hopefully he would find a home here. Maybe he could think of a way to help the others.
