Many roads I have walked So many thoughts have filled my mind "The words I speak hold nothing but truth"
The time of cold was upon them but not yet had the harsh reality of it set in. The trees had only just begun their decent into hibernation leaving leaves of burnt orange falling away. To one dark leopard this was a beautiful time. Everything blistered with color, the mornings were cold and evenings warm, all of it was appealing to him.
Early in the morning before his young or mate had awoken the father was out and about looking for a meal. Though the cubs were only just beginning to eat bits of meat and move away from mothers milk, Filatweet needed to eat more than usual to supply that milk for them. With a fog hovering over the land he stalked the thick grasses around the beach seeking what he knew was there.
It took him a while but finally he found them. Geese getting ready to leave this cold place all gathered in flocks. Crouched and silent he suddenly sprung from his hiding place. A predator coming for them sent the big birds into a panic as they screamed and tumbled over each other to get away. Caught off guard they weren't fast enough. With a snarl Rabba pounced on the back of a fleeing goose, grabbing its long thin neck between his jaws before snapping it.
Limp prey in his mouth the old man hefted a sigh and stretched out his soar leg before heading home. It was nearly noon now so they were bound to be up and about. Careful and slow on his trek he made sure not to irritate his pained leg otherwise he was sure to get a scolding by his loving mate. After a bit a familiar rise came into view.
Moving over a small hill in the sand a welcome sight could be seen. In the sandstone some other animal of long past had dug a deep tunnel leading up and then down into a chamber. Filatweet had found it to be the perfect place to raise the cubs, and it probably was. The grass hid it out of site, it was dipped down into a little valley so the wind didn't hit them, and when it rained their was enough water to drink but never got any where near the mouth of their home.
“PAPA!” A little golden kitten shot out of the den and headed straight for Rabba. He had only a moment to drop the goose before Elaina jumped onto his face, sending him onto his back. Her little claws digging into the sides of his big head she licked his ears and forehead with the little barbed tongue of hers. Laughing her father wrapped his big paws around her, and groomed her little chest.

OOC: Here's some drunken sci-fi bullshit for you have fun yay. She stood on the deck of a great ship-building, staring out through the windows at the stars. Oddly enough, they looked very small from the earth, but in reality they were huge. They were like the streetlights in the city she'd grown up in, huge globes of glass lit by a tiny glow on the inside. She expected they were a strange race of beings. Like fireflies, but probably bigger. And tentacles. "Captain Shale!" The young, but still completely competent, space captain clouded leapord turned immediately. It was her number two, the red wolf. "Number Two. Did you see the stars?" The wolf looked out the window at them and nodded. "Captain, we are approaching Rabba Five." She nodded, frowning fiercely. "Very good. Set battle stations. I'll see you on the bridge." The red wolf nodded and turned, departing down the corridor. Shale smiled at his departing form. Number Two was a very handsome wolf, she thought. All hands set Battle Stations," shouted a voice from overhead. She forgot about Number Two for the moment and headed for the bridge, paws trotting quickly down the corridor.
Rabba Five was a dangerous planet, held by the dogs of the Tempest Federation. Shale's vessel, the Conflict, had been sent to mediate a long battle between the dogs and the Lexis Protectorate. It was a dangerous mission. At any time either of the warring groups could turn on her. She arrived on the bridge and took her place in the middle of the huge room, staring out at the round plastic-looking sun. The blue-and-white planet loomed on the left side of her view, blocking out the light of its flat moon. "Number Two. How long before we can contact the Lexians?" The red wolf stared at her for a minute. Then an alarm went off, howling like the coyote that ran her alarm system did. Shale stared at him. "Problem, Data?" The coyote stopped and panted for a minute. "Intruders!" The leapord leaped up and started toward the door. Too late. Dogs came in. She saw Number Two fighting as one headed for her. It stopped. She hissed at it slightly, placing a paw on a red button nearby. "Tell your dogs to step down or I will destroy this ship!" The big canine stopped for a moment, uncertain. Then he took a step towards her, grinning evilly. Shale hesistated, took a deep breath, and jammed her paw down in the button. Everything seemed to freeze for a moment. The dog took a step back, eyes wide. "...Papa!!" Shale frowned slightly. The world exploded into a burst of white light, like the bright globe-sun outside the window...
Someone laughed nearby.
Inside an old car, a small, spotted kitten jerked awake. She twitched slighty, vaguely recalling an odd dream about.. Spaceships and..a wolf..and her father.. Shale sat up, staring around with huge green eyes. Outside, her father and one of her sisters wrestled. Like the dream, she thought... The kitten shook her head sharply to get the dream out of her head and leaped out of the old car, running in a flurry of paws and tail toward her two family members. "Daddy! 'Laina! Guess what this one time I was asleep and I had this dream and there was a wolf and streetlights and daddy was a planet.." She stopped to catch her breath. "..also the coyote made noise and then dogs came and the ship blew up and its name was Conflict. I was the captain." Shale added this as a sort of afterthought, puffing her chest briefly.

Honey colored gaze drifted over the old clouded leopard, padding his way home. Filatweet lay in the sun, feeling the calm of the world wrapped around her shoulders like a warm blanket. Everything was so...right. Rabba, her mate, greeting his children. Their children. Three beautiful cubs, completely in love with their father, unable to contain their excitement at the sight of him. Normally this all would have sent her into a frenzy of excitement herself, but she felt certain if she let the feelings lean toward jubilee, she would burst from her perch and steal Rabba away from the cubs for the foreseeable future.
The cubs...weren't all there. She counted their small heads - one, two...not three. The girls - daddy's girls - had materialized upon Rabba's arrival, but where was Yuke? Their only born son was nowhere to be seen, as per usual. Such a peculiar boy, nothing like his father, or his mother. Well, perhaps a bit like his father, but it seemed to be in such a negative way. Filatweet couldn't imagine what seemed to trouble the youngin' so often.
She turned to their other son, Course. Adopted, as he had been, it still hardly felt that way. The only thing to remind Filatweet that she hadn't brought him into this world herself was his spot-free pelt and much greater size. The young lion stood nearly twice the height of Rabba, strong and proud, like his blood father had been. Course lay with her, taking in the afternoon rays. When she asked him if he knew of Yuke's whereabouts, he turned to her and instantly read the concern on her features. Filatweet, still, could never keep her emotions hidden from anyone.
"Don't worry too much, mama. He's probably just crawled under a rock, or maybe off chasing rocks with Uncle Twix." said the lion cub. Filatweet smiled as she heard the word "mom" slip from his lips. He had a habit of slipping into "mama" and "papa" with herself and Rabba. Whether or not he addressed them by their names seemed to just change with the weather, or his mood, or perhaps both.
Still, she couldn't shake the feeling that Yuke should be here. What could possibly have him so engaged that he wouldn't welcome his own father home? Be that as it may, she set her troubles aside, and looked up to see Rabba nearing. Instantly, she beamed a smile at him. She felt self-conscious, certain that her form must be literally glowing with joy.

"Uncle Twix, no, I don't wanna go home!" Yuke whined after his uncle, the Fennec, but it was no use. "Nonsense, Yuke! We both know your papa will be home any minute, and I'll be a stuck pig before I let it be my fault that you weren't there when I'm certain your mother would want you to be!"
The whining continued, unabated. "I don't care if papa's home! He comes home every day! Can't we just go explore a few more planes? Please!" Twix turned on a dime, to face Yuke. He looked up the cub, but he shot him a glance that would petrify a fully grown lion. "Yuke. I told you once, and I'm telling you again. We. Are. Done." Twix didn't wait for a response, only bounded into the distance, clsoing in on the family den.
Yuke sulked after his uncle, defeated. The planes were so interesting, and his family was so boring. Always the same thing at home. It wasn't a secret to him, or even a surprise anymore. Papa would come home, Elaina and Shale would get all the love. Course would be waiting, sitting proudly on a rock, or in a tree, or maybe on a shining thrown in the clouds. Mama would get enough doting love to drown a cupid, Course would get a respectful nod and a few playful jabs. Twix would get ignored, gladly. Yuke, what would Yuke get? A noogie, if her were lucky.
