The river was a frightful place for this cat. Most of the water was frozen over and whatever water was showing would be ice cold. Not to mention the fact that Flynn had a seriously phobia of water. Even rain could turn the little kitty in to a nervous wreck. Great. Just Great. Flynn paced up and down the river edge, looking for any possible way to get across. She was too far away from any bridge or road so that wasn't an option. Stepping on the ice would be a nightmare. With her fear, she would constantly be worrying about falling in. And she would have no grip with her tiny paws so she couldn't exactly run back to solid ground. A frustrated sigh escaped the female's lungs.
Fly decided to take a look further down the river, hopefully finding a bridge somewhere. All she could see though that stood out, was a break in the ice, leaving a path of water to cross. Oh no. She certainly wasn't going that way. She was getting desperate now though, she was cold and she could feel her fur getting damp. Really clever Fly, just make your way over to the river, knowing you can't get across. The feline scolded herself mentally, her temper beginning to heat up. Boy was she not in a good mood. The one year old cat took a few steps towards the break in the ice and placed her paws on the edge. She made sure her feet didn't touch the water below. Come on Fly you can do this, it's just a bit of water. What are you? Some pathetic little kitten who's afraid to get her paws wet? She tried her best to encourage herself forward but it just wasn't working. She remained frozen to the side, mentally arguing with herself.

With the air growing colder, Hephaestus had to make sure he kept moving around often so his bad leg didn't cramp up and leave him aching and miserable. So, instead, a walk was in order to clear his head and loosen up his achy joints. Despite his love for Lexis and the "elder" life, he felt rather useless, so he decided, while he had his food brought to him anyway, he'd go out and maybe catch something while he was on his walk. If he could. Phaes had only been hunting the few years, and he wasn't as good as it as he hoped he would be. Not because he was a bad hunter, but his bad leg gave him some trouble when it came to staying steady as he stalked down his pray. At the thought, he pinned his floppy ears back and gave a low huffing noise before letting them lift forward.
He let out a content little sigh, steam coming from his lips as his large long legged body bounced forward down the edge of the river. There was an obvious limp in his step as he made his way across the snow covered banks, listening to the water run under the cold ice. His tail wagged lazily behind him and he twisted his head a little to look over across the way. A feline was standing there, dancing at the side before staring at the water. His head tilted in classical dog like fashion and he smacked his jowls once before stepping onto the ice with one foot. He felt it slick beneath his feet and lifted his other paw to put his weight down on the cracking black ice. He considered it before taking a few steps before he stepped completely on it and slid a little. With a grunt, he pushed off bank and slid his way half across the river before he started walking. He tested the area at the break in the ice before pushing off and hopping to the other side of the small break in the middle. His back paw slid into the water and he kicked it off, padding towards her along the crack in the ice.
"Hello little one..." He coo'd softly as he made his way towards the small cat staring at the unfrozen part of the river, keeping his distance to make sure that just in case the ice was thin under where she stood, he didn't send her into cold watery grave. He wagged his tail slowly, curiously as his ears lifted. He leaned down to sniff towards her, taking careful steps in her direction, not getting too close but easing his way forward just a bit. Flynn walks. Flynn talks. Flynn's thoughts.
The small cat was getting to the point where she was almost ready to give up and walk away. What exactly did she want to cross the river for anyway? Sure she had explored this side as much as she wanted to but still, there had to be places she hadn't been yet. But she was curious, and the opposite side was beckoning her forward. A disgruntled meow escaped her throat as she took a few steps back, away from the water's edge. Her paws didn't slide as much as she thought they would on the cold ice below her thankfully. At the edge she felt reasonably safe but she dared to go out on to the middle. If she slipped or the ice broke, who knows what would happen to her...
As she paused by the riverside, Flynn noticed the clouds of white air leaving her nose and mouth as she breathed. It really was cold here. The sky above was white, practically the same colour as the ground beneath her feet. Because her paws were relatively small, Fly's feet remained on the surface of the snow, leaving only faint prints when she moved. One of the upsides to having small feet in her opinion; it meant it was harder for potential predators to track her down.
Fly was too deep in thought to realise a large canine had began making his way across the ice. Her deep blue eyes opened wide. By his scent she could instantly tell he was male, and of a reasonable age. His fur was grey and almost scruffy looking. He walked with a sort of lanky gate and he appeared to be limping slightly. Her heart rate sped up slightly and her breathing grew heavier. She was startled to see him but a sense of thankfulness filled her. Now if she made a potentially lethal mistake, someone would see and maybe be able to help. He seemed confident on the ice, this was a good sign.
His words were calm and almost welcoming. He spoke with a matured and experienced voice. He seemed friendly enough but in a place like this, you couldn't exactly trust someone on first impressions. "Hey." Was the only word that managed to leave her throat at this time. She was shivering with both the cold and fear. "I wouldn't be on the ice if I was you. What if it broke?" She warned the dog softly, taking a deep breath before she spoke. Despite his confidence, she still worried for both his safety and her own. If the ice cracked now, they could both meet a watery grave.

"Speech" Actions 'Thoughts'
Hephaestus' gate was rather gimpy, he overcompensation for that wounded back leg and as he made his way towards the shivering small feline, he paused, not wanting to get too close and scare the poor thing. Though it had seemed that he already had. He saw those shivers of fear from the small creature's pelt, startled, terrified of what appeared to be both himself and the ice. He tilted his head a little at the pale cat with blue eyes, her small form left almost no traces of her ghost like appearance in the snow. And as she spoke, he couldn't help but let out a charming little laugh.
"Then I suppose I'd be rather cold for a few hours." He said with a soft look. It was a lie, but a rather good one. Anyone knew at the sight of his crippled and old form, if the ice broke out from under him, chances are he'd be sucked down by the torrent beneath the solid sheets and would drown before anyone could help him. But, he wanted to keep this poor feline optimistic, because she seemed rather terrified as it was of the black water. "Are you alright little cat? You seem rather shaken, you're not catching a chill are you?" He said worriedly, his tail sinking down between his legs and his ears pinning back. He leaned down to touch his nose to those delicate ears, finding a rather fast pulse beneath his chilly nose through those thin vein filled ears. It was a good sign, if she was scared, and her pulse had slowed, it was a dangerous sign of hypothermia.
"Just to be safe, why don't we get off the ice and talk, do you need help crossing?" He asked quietly, tilting his head as he sat down for a moment to sooth his aching back leg. He let it lay out at a crooked angle, his tail swishing across the snow that bunched up around his body. His amber eyes looked down at the small feline with a gentle expression, steam oozing out of his nose as he breathed in deep inhales and exhales. The fur around his jowls was a little icy from saliva coating the fur around his mouth. He sniffed and perked his ears up cautiously. [/scrolly] | |
