“It's so cold!” Shrieked the little cat as she shivered in the wind. Rain was on the air, the evening sun all but blackened out by dark clouds and the wind just wouldn't stop. Autumn leaves of bright colors whipped around the little cat in a frenzy and truly this was beginning to frighten her but she had to hunt! Elders and mothers needed food and if she didn't get it to them she would have Florence to answer to...
Little paws going numb along with her ears and nose she padded on deeper and deeper into the forest trying to find anything with meat on it. Even a vole or bluejay would be good enough as something she could bring back but she just had to bring back something. Then the sliver cat heard a sound. Something shuffling in grounded leaves? Excited by the thoughts of a rabbit she rounded a tree only to come nose to nose with a badger.
A scream bled into a vicious snarl and then Koi was gone. Running like a cat with fire on her tail she took off as fast as she could and just kept going letting the trees blur around her until she came crashing to a stop. Paws tangling over them selves the poor huntress went into a front spin over the ground until she finally ended up sitting with short fur completely messed with leaves and mud all over her. Frightened about the badger she looked around but seeing it no where the poor cat began to cry.
She hurt, her fur was all messed up, it was cold, and she was lost! Rump in the mud her head hung and tail wrapped around her. She truly didn't think it could get worst unless it rained. Just like that it did. A rain drop hit her ear and as she looked up Koi got a rain drop right to the nose. Standing she looked around for somewhere to hide before it really started to pour but there was nothing. Trotting between the trees she looked and looked but there was nothing and then the wind picked up. Almost knocking her off her paws the wind began to scream around her throwing her around and blurring her vision with the oranges, yellows, and reds of leaves. Trying to back out of the whirl wind of colors she only ended up with her tail end against rough tree bark.
Curling in on her self huddled against the ground she closed her eyes wishing it would all just stop but it wasn’t the ending of the wind which made her go into action it was a growl. The badger! Eyes snapping open Koi was greeted with a leaf slapping her in the face before being blown away again and revealing an angry badger coming right at her.
With a terrified scream the little mau darted up the tree she had been against with claws gripping and before she knew it she was as high up as she dared go. A long long way down the badger looked up at her almost with a glare in its eyes. The branches swayed and as Koi held tight she swayed with them no longer concern with the rain but with staying alive.

Red sky in the morning, shepherd's warning. The age-old quote repeated itself once more in the feline's mind as he peered up at the darkening heavens. Skye had known long before the winds or the clouds had begun to accumulate that unpleasant weather was on the way by noting the obvious (if you paid attention to them) tell-tale signs. Instinct and common sense, guided him to a warm, safe place to hide, while curiosity egged him onward in his exploration of the eerie forests. One particular factor was the reason he wasn't curled up in the nook of a tree trunk or burrow- the fact that he could smell another feline out here that had passed by just recently.
Skye pondered about why an individual would wander around at such a dismal time. It puzzled Skye even more when he realized the scent trail was leading deeper into the forest and passed many shallow cavities in the earth that could secure a cold cat if need be. The silver tabby shrugged, relaxing his furrowed eyebrows even though the permanent indents in the pattern of the fur remained from his heavy thinking over the years. They were much like the wrinkles on a humans forehead for means of comparison. Animals were weird and had all sorts of illogical reasoning to defend their senseless actions. Not that Skye was calling this female a fool, however. He just wished to understand her decision, even if it wasn't any of his business.
A alarming screech initiated a flinch from Skye. His ears smothered to his skull as he held himself closer to the ground and headed towards the sound as fast as he could with a bum leg. The first thought that occurred to him was that the cat he had been following had been harmed in some way. A shiver trickled down his spine; whatever had gotten her could get him as well. He shoved the selfish thoughts away and crept out from under the scraggly brush, to find a silver queen tumbling away as a badger lumbered after her in pursuit. He frowned, irritated by the fact a badger would stoop low enough to pick on an adept, healthy, and youthful individual. The jerk is probably bored or something. Either that, or desperate. Badger's don't usually eat cats.
The tom heaved a great sigh and shuffled over, biting his lip as the rain began to cascade through the trees. Now that the leaves were dying, there was little or no protection from the rain and wind. Not only was that irritating him, but now he had to go and confront a moronic badger with a leg so twisted and stiff he could stand on his hind legs and do a cartwheel. And unfortunately, unlike most animals, badgers had a bite just as bad as their bark. Skye had a very little chance at convincing the badger to leave on peaceful terms. He huffed, positioned himself strategically near a tree, and glared knives into the striped body, which had started to turn around to face the rustling made by Skye.
"Hey flat-face, maybe it's about time you got a day job or something!" With that said, Skye swiped a portion of dirt at the badger's face. The creature blinked before releasing a raging snarl and tore across the ground towards Skye. Skye gulped, knowing for a fact that he was a terrible climber because of his leg. Yet, he had no choice. So the silver tom hauled himself up by his front paws and kicked furiously with his right hind leg, somehow managing to reach the second branch before flopping tiredly on it. And as he sat there, he cursed in his mind over and over again. Now they were both stuck up in the trees. I'm not very good at this last-minute decision making, am I.
Skye shrugged and looked over at the silver queen, who had coat markings not dissimilar to his own. She looked stressed and unhappy, and Skye had just made the circumstances worse. "Sorry miss, I aimed to distract him but failed miserably. I can assure you he'll leave us alone once the bad weather comes though, at least, or when he finally gets bored of us." Skye offered a sheepish smile. Being stuck in a tree during a bad storm wouldn't be any walk in the park. Skye took a glimpse downward again, only to be greeted with the same ugly face and the same annoying prickle of frustration. "And I thought skunks had it pretty bad," Skye muttered, just loud enough for the badger to hear. The striped animal only blinked stupidly and started to pace.
Even before the brunt of the storm hit, the badger began to wander off. Skye looked at the female again, wondering what she would do now that she had a chance. As for him, he would have to wait a little longer in order to make time for his lame limb.

Gripping tight to her branch with both muscles and claws the huntress kept her eyes tightly shut and ears back trying to shut out the sickening sway of her branch and screaming of wind all around her. This was not what was suppose to happen! Things like this don't happen to me! I'm a lady dang it! Having a drama queen moment Koi ranted to her self, screaming and yelling in her head almost wanting to rip a hole in somebodies head. Her luck, her luck, this was just the mau's luck to end up in a tree in the middle of a flipping storm in the rain!
A voice carried on the winds, the voice of a tom. Stupid imagination, she grumbled. She was always seeing things, getting into pickles because of them and she always had just her self to blame for all of it.
Not opening her eyes Koi just kept holding tight to her branch hoping the wind would just stop for her. If it would just stop she could run, run away to home, run away to that old library and curl up in th torn up book she was born in where it is warm and smells of mom. Oh mom, she would have never let her get into this.
Again the same voice of a tom reached her ears but this time it was so close she could not help but open her eyes. Green eyes falling on a smokey tom the girl almost fell off her branch with surprise. “Oh my! I'm sorry! I didn't see you!” She cried righting her self on the branch unsure the tom had even heard her over the howling of the wind. It hit her causing her fur to bend this way and that and making her lean with the swirls and turns of the blowing force of nature as she looked at the long haired tom.
Yet again just her luck. Some handsome man comes right along up her tree getting to see her with fur all in a mess and covered in mud. He looked down again and she listening with ears perked though it was a bit painful to keep her ears up with the wind pushing so hard against them. At his words she couldn't help but crack a smile. Looking down at the ugly creature she chuckled softly before ending the sound with a sad sigh.
They both ended up going silent for a while and the badger wondered off but the storm wasn't even at its highest point yet. Digging in her claws Koi managed to stand a bit then began jumping carefully down the branches taking her time to make sure she didn't fall the long way down. On her leap to the branch the tom was on she thought she had it but the dang wind pushed her back a bit just causing her back legs to miss and leaving her grappling at the wood with her claws. Pulling her self up she shyly glanced over at the man. What a great hunter I am... Can't even jump onto a stupid branch.
Not knowing what to say she looked back down. There was one branch left but after that it was just a straight fall to the ground. Thats going to hurt, she thought with dread but she had to get down at some point. As the wind died a bit she stood to pace a few steps back and forth clearly stressed. What was she going to do!? Sighing the poor woman sat her rump back down with tail hanging freely just looking down at the leaf littered ground.
“What am I going to do?” She sighed clearly thinking aloud and not directing it at anyone.

Skye pondered for a moment over whether or not the queen had heard him call out against the violent wind. She seemed unfazed by his sudden presence- and then, she startled into realization before the tom could call out a second time. He felt a twinge of pity; this female really was in a mess, and he had almost managed to scare her right off of the branch. It was a big enough fall to hurt, maybe even break a bone if one landed poorly. Skye shuddered at the thought. He didn't need any more broken or deformed bones, and landing on all fours was especially difficult with only three working legs.
After the badger had given up on its impractical endeavor, Skye began formulating a plan to get himself out of the tree. He had wasted the time spent waiting for the badger to leave wondering how to distract the animal if it didn't leave in time for the two of them to get down and seek shelter. He found his attention captured once again by the silver queen who was cautiously making her way toward him. She carefully righted her balance on the precarious branches, smoothly adjusting to each change in wind speed and branch shake. There was no jealousy present in his eyes but a tiny part of him would always long for that feline grace, the grace he would never have because of his leg.
And then, in an instant, the female was grappling with the branch he was situated on, struggling to right herself. His jaw dropped; he had not expected her to fall during his daydreaming, and attempted to reach for her but she had already steadied herself by the time he had gotten close enough. "S-sorry," he whispered, silently ashamed. His thoughtful habits always got him into trouble. She shot him a shy glance, noticing her stunning set of emerald irises for the first time, and chuckled. At least she was laid-back enough to find humor in her clumsiness- hopefully she would find patience in his own set of unsteady paws.
"Well, we can always scoot down...I don't know about you, but I'm not about to jump that," he answered, a crooked smirk spreading across his muzzle. Not wanting to waste any more precious time hanging on the branch, Skye carefully picked his way back to the trunk. He placed his right hind leg down first, testing it's ability to hold his weight a few times before awkwardly jumping and clinging on with the rest of his paws. He sighed; the queen would notice quickly that there was something not quite right with him.
Slowly but steadily he shimmied down the trunk, losing his foothold only once. It was a relief to feel the constant earth beneath his feet- unmoving and as still as a...dead rat. Skye inwardly flinched at the morbid comparison, shaking the thoughts away before looking over at the stranger. "We should probably find somewhere that can shelter us from the wind and rain, like a hollow tree trunk or log or something," Skye offered, giving the feline a worried look.
