the lovely lady valeina ...but did satisfaction really bring him back? Twin pinpricks of green stared from the black abyss of the shadows, disconnected and ethereal, silhouetted against the darkness. If she were not the beholder of said pinpricks, then the female would, as of now, be worried. But as those green pinpricks were nothing but her own eyes, simply disembodied because of the darkness that surrounded them. As the Mau slipped from the shadows she had hidden in, the pinpricks gained life – a head, neck, shoulders, and then, eventually, a body. Now they were no longer pinpricks, but eyes. Valeina had been spooked by a low rumble nearby, first thinking that maybe one of the ‘trains’, so the humans had called them, had come back to life. Being on the tracks at the time, Valeina had bolted away, exiting the tunnel before she stopped, letting her breath catch. She had, due to her cowardice, not ever determined the true cause for the noise. As she slunk back into the half-tube that the train tracks were placed along, she paused for a moment. She had heard a noise. Valeina couldn’t help but sigh with relief when she noticed that it wasn’t the low rumbling that had occurred earlier, but rather a high-pitched squeaking, a squeal, almost. It was a rat, that she was sure of. She raised her muzzle to the air, opened her mouth, and let its scent flow in through her scent glands. She closed her eyes, took a few steps forward, and smelled again. Stronger. It was in this haphazard manner (her eyes closed most of the time), she zigzagged across the tunnel, trying to find her rat. Sure, when her eyes were open, she saw many others, but she wanted the one she had first smelled – and somehow, its scent was clear against the others. Would she ever find her rat? {304 words}

Teagan walks. Teagan talks. Teagan's thoughts.
The railway wasn't the usual area that the young female would visit. In fact, this was the first time she had ever actually decided to come down here. She walked with her head held low and her tail between her slender legs. Her small frame trembled slightly as she moved, her nervous brown eyes scanning the area cautiously. The exact reason Teagan came down here was uncertain. She was a naturally curious canine which would be one reason, but she also believed she had heard something. A train was what the humans called them. It could have just been her mind playing tricks on her, like it did sometimes, but she wanted to check it out anyway. Most people called her crazy but it wasn't her fault she hallucinated things. It's not her fault she was born this way.
Shaking the thoughts from her mind, a strange scent caught her attention. Again, it could just be her brain playing tricks on her but she wanted to be sure. As she began to follow the scent, the more sure she was that this wasn't a hallucination. The scent was of a female for definite, a feline to be exact. Being part of the Lexis tribe made her familiar with the different scents between the species. As she got closer, it became clear that it was a domestic feline, a cat. The dalmatian picked up the pace till she was almost trotting like a horse. She was close now, very close.
Turning around a corner, the silhouette of the feline she had detected came in to view. This cat was small, much smaller than the canine herself. It was at this point that the canine didn't know how to proceed. Should she approach the cat and greet her? Or should she just turn around and walk away? Teagan didn't really know what she wanted to do, let alone know what was the right thing to do. She ended up just standing there, staring at the feline that stood a few meters ahead of her.
