[scrolly:h(290),w(236),sy] It was raining. In fact, there were buckets of water falling from the sky, which was as dark as night. It seemed like the sun decided to go to rest early, have a siesta during that afternoon, letting the darkness take over for a few hours. Ears pinned back against the onslaught of water, the clouded leopard trudged forward, his mood as dark as the sky. He normally wouldn't go out on a day like this, but today, he had no choice. The roof of his previous shelter had suddenly given way. He had slipped out a broken window just in time. He was thankful he had such good reflexes, otherwise, he might have been crushed by the metal sheeting falling onto the floor. Blasted rain, he thought with annoyance. Giving an annoyed hiss as a drop hit his eye, the cat looked around, hoping to see a broken window. A flicker of movement caught his attention at the end of the street. A canine-looking figure was walking towards him. It was about the size of a German shepherd, taller than him, but lankier. It took the creature another few seconds to catch sight of him, and instantly hatred flared in it's eyes.
The marbled cat lowered himself into a crouch, not attacking. He wasn't the type to attack a dog if it didn't attack him. It was clear to him though that this mutt was going to try and kill him. The dog snarled at him, lips pulling back on his yellowish teeth. Alcyone looked at the mutt, giving a vicious snarl of his own, displaying his abnormally long teeth. The canine charged him, but the clouded leopard was agile and gave a small step to the side at the last second. As the canine swept past, the cat launched himself at him, knocking him easily off his paws and clawing viciously at his side. The dog yelped in pain, reaching around to bite him. The leopard swatted a paw at his face, lunging for his throat. As the cat closed his jaws on the flesh, he heard the sound of paws galloping across the tarmac. Lifting his head but not letting go, the male saw a larger dog, teeth bared, running towards them. The cat hissed, letting his prey fall to the ground, turning towards the new adversary. The dog stopped a few feet from him, watching him cautiously, obviously a more experienced fighter. The canine lunged forward reaching to claw his face. Alcyone ducked, the paw grazed his back, avoiding him a very punishing blow but not sparing him a bruise there.
Just as the large paw came across his back, the spotted cat leapt at the dog, sinking his front claws in it's shoulders. Lifting his hind legs, the leopard began kicking furiously at the soft underbelly. The dog snarled and reached for his scruff, managing to get a slight hold on the skin. The dog pulled, and he was forced to let go, managing to get a few scratches in as was flung onto the asphalt. Snarling, the cat rolled onto his paws, only to see that both dogs were limping away as fast as they could. He let them go, not bothering to finish them off. It would take long enough for them to recover anyway. Feeling satisfied of having vented his aggression, the male walked off in the opposite direction.
It took him a few more blocks for him to manage to find a decent shelter. He slipped through an ajar door, sitting down on the floor, wrapping his tail around his paws. He had just finished licking the blood off his coat when he heard a faint sound of pawsteps. He gave a soft hiss, waiting to see what the creature was. Hopefully, it wasn't another dog.

"Speech"
The rain really did match Orion's mood. He had woken up irritable and he hadn't been able to shake his foul mood since morning. Wandering from the den, Orion wasn't sure what had made him venture out in such terrible weather. His ebony fur was soaked through, leaving a trail of drips behind him. Orion was considering turning back, however his dislike for his family drove the young wolf forward. There were days when his mother and siblings were tolerable, however there were other days when Rikki's over-protective nature was just too much for him. He needed space. He needed air. Taking a deep breath of the cool air, Orion continued on his journey, looking for some kind of shelter to get out of the blasted rain.
Suddenly, Orion's barriers were down. He wasn't concentrating on where he was walking, and a dip in the pavement sent him to the ground. Cursing angrily, Orion took a few moments to compose himself, and reassemble his feet. He loathed his clumsy legs. Orion briefly wondered what his father would think of such a clumsy first born cub. He'd probably think Orion was a bit of a joke. Orion's ears flattened at the thought. He always wanted to do his father proud. Orion longed to meet his father, and although no one knew what had happened to the mysterious Gravity, it was commonly accepted that he had died months ago. It was a shame, as Orion could only hear of his father's successes through word of mouth. What was he like? Orion had no idea.
A sudden rush of pawsteps jolted Orion out of his thoughts. Looking up, he saw two cowering dogs running towards him, blood staining their coats. A fight, Orion thought excitedly. Orion may not be fully grown yet, but he loved witnessing battled and bloodshed. It made his heart pound and his blood rush excitedly. Orion could distinctly smell the scent of a feline nearby, however a lot of it was washed away by the smell of rain and rot. Curious as ever, Orion decided to follow the scent, padding towards an old building which the feline had probably taken shelter in. The pungent smell of blood was rich in the air as he poked his nose around the door. Maybe it was foolish to approach a feline who had just attacked two other canines, however Orion's adrenaline was running high, and he couldn't help himself.
A hiss emanated from the room, and Orion paused, wary. Should he retreat? This feline clearly did not want to be disturbed. However, Orion was being cocky, and he pushed himself forward into the room. Unfortunately, his entrance wasn't as grand as he had hoped. Orion's legs got caught from beneath him, sending Orion flying to the ground. Landing with a thump, Orion's fur prickled with embarrassment as he tried in futile to scramble to his paws.

[scrolly:h(290),w(236),sy] As the cat walked through the door, he found himself in a passageway, small and cramped. Further along, to his right, there was a rickety staircase leading towards the upper levels. The floor itself was rotting away, the wood breaking off, leaving gaping holes in the ground. The walls, humid from the many leaks in the ceiling, were falling to pieces, the wallpaper peeling off in chunks, bits of plaster missing from underneath. The windows were yellow with neglect, most of them broken, the few still intact rattling on their sills. On his left, there was a doorway leading to what seemed to be the rests of a living room, except that the couches were moth-eaten and the carpet was riddled with holes. The room itself was very small, yet it seemed to have been inhabited by many people, given the amount of use on the furniture. Many of the houses in the rich area were as pristine as ever, looking like the humans had died yesterday, and not six years ago. Opening his mouth, the cat was besieged by the musty odour of long-abandoned wood left to decay, and the dominating smell of the canine blood that coated his fur.
Walking gracefully forward, the marbled cat pounced onto one of the steps of the staircase, starting to lick the blood off his jaws. It soothed him somewhat, and the day suddenly didn't seem so horrendous after all. Soon, he was clean, and as he dragged his rough tongue over his lips one last time, he heard approaching pawsteps on the other side of the door. A hiss emanated from his throat, not really desiring any other company except his own race. For, by the clicking of claws on the asphalt, the feline concluded that the creature approaching him was canine. The creature seemed to hesitate, but then it decided to come in anyway and in tumbled. . . a pup. Completely black in colour, except for strands of grey here and there on his charcoal coat, the young wolf seemed to have tripped, and was now sprawled flat on the floor. His soaked coat was on end, and there was embarrassment on his traits. The young canine scrambled to his feet with difficulty, and Alcyone knew there was something wrong with the co-ordination of this pup.
Alcyone had no love for dogs. Canines in general irked him. Yet, he had never been confronted with a pup before. Staying seated, the cat watched the pup scramble for a second before saying: ”Do you need help down there?” He knew the pup would say no, there still seemed to be some notion of pride in him since the youngster was so embarrassed by his fall. Yet, he felt compelled to ask. He wasn't blinded by revenge enough to attack a defenceless young canine. In fact, he found it dishonourable to attack any dog that didn't attack him first. There was a slight feeling of regret when he thought of how this pup might become one of his enemies, and that he might one day meet him again in battle. His emerald gaze locked with the dark amber ones of the canine, slightly inquisitive. ”What are you doing here?” |
he asked, his deep vocals holding a slight edge of sharpness. After all, shouldn't this youngster be with his mother? What if she burst in on them? She might attack him for being anywhere near the pup. The spotted cat decided it would be better for him to be on his guard, just in case. -------------------------------- words; 592 muse; 8/10 tags; Picasso with Orion ^^ notes; A lot better! Orion was relieved when the feline didn't attack immediately. He blinked up at the clouded leopard, slightly dazed by the fall. Who was he? Why wasn't he attacking Orion like he did the other two dogs that Orion had seen previously? It was then that Orion realised he had been very stupid poking his nose into the lair of a feline's. His mother would have a heart attack if she saw Orion conversing with a leopard! A small smirk appeared on Orion's face at the thought of his mother seeing him now. The only problem was... He had just made a fool of himself in front of a larger and stronger cat than him. Orion knew that his bod would let him down when he relied on it the most! Sighing, Orion focused on the cat in front of him, trying not to dwell on the fact he had just fallen flat on his face.
The words that the clouded leopard spoke made Orion scoff. How dare a feline offer their help! "I am perfectly capable of getting up, thank you. Orion replied curtly. He was perhaps being a little too rude to a feline whom he'd only just met, however Orion was a proud wolf. He was son of Gravity, he didn't need help from others! Puffing out his chest, Orion tried to act as though nothing had happened. They could forget that silly little fall and put it behind them. Instead, Orion focused on the leopard before him. He had not met many cats as his mother was extremely wary of them, which was understandable. Orion had heard of the horrific torture Rikki had been put through for countless years, before Orion's father had bravely saved her from the claws of the Iris lions. Orion, however, was letting curiosity get the better of him as he examined the slender yet powerful creature before him. He was marbled with large black patches across his torso and his eyes were a brilliant emerald green. Orion took a small step forward without realising what he was doing.
He wasn't surprised when the leopard suddenly snapped defensively at him. Of course, Orion had just invaded this feline's space. Wavering, Orion decided to choose his words carefully. "It was raining and I needed shelter. I also smelt blood. I saw those dogs cowering a few streets back. That was you, wasn't it?" Fascination glowed in Orion's eyes as he kept his gaze fixated on those bright green eyes. As much as Orion knew he shouldn't be making conversation with a feline, he was letting the curiosity get the better of him. Orion suddenly realised he hadn't even introduced himself. With all the tripping and falling, he had forgotten to even tell this leopard his name. Not that he would be that interested, but it was common courtesy after all. "The name is Orion, by the way. Son of Gravity and Rikki." Orion didn't know if Gravity's name would mean anything to this stranger, but it was worth a try.

[scrolly:h(290),w(236),sy] Alcyone could just imagine what his sister Phoenix would have said if she had seen the pup stumble into his shelter. She had always had a teasing way about her, playing with other felines, toying with their thoughts. Although she acted sly, she had a real soft spot for any baby animal. Oh look Alcy, he's so cute! Yes, that would have been her words. A wave of guilt overcame him, violent as a storm, unsettling his emotions. Luckily, he had control over his feelings, and none of it showed through his traits. His expression remained of the same icy calm as he looked at the youngster trying to get back on his feet. The pup looked up, seeming slightly dazed from his wipeout. Internally, the clouded leopard thought is was rather comical. It had been quite the fall. There seemed to be a slight questioning look in his dark amber eyes.
A small smirk appeared on the pup's face, and the marbled cat wondered what he was thinking about. He didn't think it was of him, from the slightly distant look in his eye. Not that he really cared to be honest.
At his question, the youngster scoffed. I am perfectly capable of getting up, thank you. The words were rude, but the feline didn't care. The pup was obviously very proud despite his young age, and he wasn't surprised with his answer. Yet, the choice of words and tone seemed to indicate a cockiness that was especially present in youngsters trying to prove themselves to the world, be the tough guys. If he wasn't careful, this pup could get in serious trouble with a smart-mouth like that. ”If I were you, I would be careful of what you say and how you say it. Not all cats will let you go unscathed if you address them like that.” he said, his tone still stony calm, green eyes looking intensely at the youngster. It never did anyone good to be overly arrogant. Hopefully the little wolf would learn that before he got into too much trouble. Would be a shame really, if a life so young was to be ended. Well, he guessed it would make one less canine on this planet.
The young wolf was looking at him, examining him. He mustn't have seen many cats in his lifetime. The leopard simply looked back at him, ears flickering forward as he answered his question. It was raining and I needed shelter. I also smelt blood. I saw those dogs cowering a few streets back. That was you wasn't it? His words were a lot more reasonable, seeming to be more cautious with his words. ”Indeed. One decided he wanted a fight. He got one.” |
he answered, shaking his head. He looked back to the puppy, realising that there was a glint of fascination in his eyes. He didn't exactly know how to react, so didn't react at all, keeping his stony stare on the youngster. It was the pup who spoke next. The name is Orion, by the way. Son of Rikki and Gravity. The cat raised his eyebrows, recognising one of the names. He had heard a lot about him, and he knew that Gravity had once been the leader of the Tempest pack, before being captured by Florence. That had been his downfall. ”Gravity, huh? You have one heck of a father, that's for sure,” he said, his eyes glinting with interest. ”I'm Alcyone, son of Jack and Seraphine,” he continued, giving a slight bow of the head. He knew his name usually was given to a girl, being one of the seven Pleiades, but luckily, not many creatures knew that. ”Nice to meet you,” he added, out of politeness. He was perfectly aware that he shouldn't have spoken in such a manner, however he was instantly wary and aggressive of felines. Perhaps it was in his blood to hate felines so much. Orion didn't hate this cat, though. He wanted to know more about him, he wanted to ask more questions. Orion wondered whether he would ever become more powerful than this leopard, when he was fully grown, with his muscles fully formed. The feline was larger than his mother, meaning that Orion was likely to never grow larger than him, however Orion could always wish. He wanted to be big and mighty and be able to take out animals with a snap of his jaws. Orion shivered in excitement. He was wishing his cubhood away, wishing he was older and maturer.
When the leopard spoke up, Orion's excitement deflated. He had been hoping for an exciting battle story of how the leopard had defeated the two dogs. Instead, he got a short sentence that was utterly uninteresting. Drooping his shoulders, Orion looked away. He could feel the feline's stony stare on him, however Orion refused to look back. Instead, he decided to make up the story in his head of how it came to happen. He decided that this leopard must be a good fighter to fight off two angry dogs. He wondered whether he had any training. In fact, was he even part of a pack? There was no scent of one, however Orion's smell was still developing, and he had had little experience of sniffing out certain scents.
"How did you learn to fight?" Orion asked curiously. He had little fighting experience himself, other than the playfights that he had with his siblings, "I want to become an excellent warrior when I'm older." He admitted with a grin. Even better, Orion hoped to lead his own army into battle one day. It was a dream that would most likely never be fulfilled, however he wished it could be. He would love to control dozens upon dozens of canines. Every single one would listen to his command and do as he said. Orion was a little power hungry, which would most likely grow as he grew. He just loved the thought of having power. Pack leaders don't realise how lucky they are.
When Alycone introduced himself, Orion beamed proudly at him recognising his father's name. He nodded in agreement. Gravity was somewhat of a legend. However, Orion had also heard his father's name being spoken in not so fond a manner. It made him angry when he heard his father being called a coward for running away so many times. His father was not a coward! He was a brave wolf who slaughtered many cats in his prime. "I am his firstborn son. I should have rights to the Tempest Pack. If my father hadn't given it all up." Orion rolled his eyes at that. Why had Gravity not stayed at the top? He was famous, he was brave, he was strong, and everyone loved him! It frustrated Orion, however he would never find out what had been going through Gravity's head at the time. No one will ever know.
"It is good to meet you too," Orion replied sheepishly. Was it really that good to meet an enemy? "My mother would be horrified if she saw me speaking to a large feline like yourself." He frowned and cocked his head. His curiosity got the better of him when he eventually asked, "Why haven't you killed me yet? Are you an ally of canines?" Orion wasn't sure what to make of Alycone. Maybe he was peaceful, unless attacked.

[scrolly:h(290),w(236),sy] The marbled cat unfurled his tail from around his paws, laying down sideways on the step. The staircase was too narrow for him to allow his tail to extend sideways, so he let it fall down the stairs. At his warning, the youngster narrowed his eyes. Either he knew very well what he had just been told, or he hated felines a lot. Probably both. He was the son of Gravity, it was only normal that he should dislike felines. For Alcyone, it had been more of a learning process, and although he hated canines, he had enough politeness not to make a big deal out of it. And too much honour to not attack them on sight. Besides, that would be very stupid, and he would be very likely to get killed if he charged in head first into every fight. A fight was about strength, yes, and agility. But it was also about knowing your enemy, and knowing how to have a good strategy to counter the opponent's blows and deal your own. It was almost an art; a brutish, primitive form of art, but still, one that required some form of intelligence and fitness of body.
The cub seemed to have expected a very exciting story about his fight with the dogs, because at his short sentence, his shoulders drooped with disappointment. He seemed to avoid his gaze, but there was a distant look in his eye and the cat wondered what he was thinking about. His eyes left the canine for a second, dropping to his paw, where he had overlooked a little drop of blood. He licked it quickly, his rough tongue combing his fur at the same time. The metallic taste of it filled his mouth, yet it was a taste that was both good and grating on his tongue. You could almost say that both feelings cancelled themselves out and left only neutrality. Some, felines and canines alike, loved the taste of it when it came from the enemy side. To canine blood, Alcyone was indifferent, but liked the feeling of killing another dog that had murdered so many of his race. After a few seconds, the pup looked back at him, questions in his eyes. The curiosity of the pup was something that Alcyone wasn't accustomed to seeing from a dog.
How did you learn to fight? I want to be an excellent warrior when I'm older. The cat looked the pup over, taking in his form. He would be a well-built wolf when he grew up. Not the biggest, but not the smallest either. He would have a hard time getting around his lack of co-ordination, but he seemed smart enough to find a way to overcome it. After all, everything was possible. Well, almost. ”How I learned to fight. . . Well, I was only a cub about your age when my family was killed by dogs. So I left alone, and I had to learn to survive. Fast. It's a dangerous world out there, and over time I learned to escape first whilst I was still small and vulnerable. Then, slowly, I learned to fight. Taking on small dogs, then progressively larger. There were many narrow misses. You're lucky. You still have a parents to teach you, which cuts down the risks a lot,” he said. He locked gaze with the pup. ” You could be a good warrior someday. But it takes time and effort.” |
he added, his emotionless eyes conveying the importance of the point. I'm his firstborn son. I should have rights to the Tempest Pack. If my father hadn't given it all up. The feline noted his roll of the eyes. Maybe this pup didn't know the whole story about how his father came to abandon the lead of his pack. ”Your father was a great leader you know. He was captured by Florence, and was forced to do something that lost him the support of his pack. What you must understand, is that in a war, both sides do things, terrible and unethical things, to win. This is no exception, and both the Pack and the Pride have done some of those things. The second thing you must know, is that a leader has no power if he doesn't have supporters. You could decide here and now you are the most powerful wolf in the world, yet there would be no one to validate that. Power is given by others, young Orion, not by oneself. Your father lost the support of his pack, and it made no sense for him to continue leading, as he had lost the power given to him by others.” The feline's tone was softer than before, trying to get this youngster to see his point. It's good to meet you too. The tone was rather sheepish, as if he half meant what he was saying. Alcyone didn't care. My mother would be horrified if she saw me speaking to a large feline like yourself. The cat gave a small chuckle. Of course, he was rather hoping that she wouldn't burst in on them and attack him without giving him a chance to explain. ”I bet she would. If she doesn't attack me on sight.” he said, a small smirk on his lips. He had learnt long ago not to mess with mothers protecting their cubs. Their instincts were so powerful, they would attack anything to protect them, even if it meant certain death. Why haven't you killed me yet? Are you an ally of canines? The felines laughed before becoming serious once more, reflecting on how to answer the question. He locked eyes with the pup, emerald meeting amber. ”I'm in no way an ally of the canines. In fact, I hate canines. Mostly. I didn't hesitate to attack those dogs back there, because they attacked me first. Now what I'm about to say is very important. Even though I despise your kind, you have a right to live. Every creature, big and small, deserves to lead a life. Now, if, like the two dogs back there, one decided to attack me, then I'd have no scruples in injuring and even killing the creature in question. I didn't attack you because you didn't attack me.” he said, his gaze drilling hard into the eyes of the youngster. ”Besides, to end a life so young, without giving you the chance to live it. . . One of the worst crimes to commit.” he said, his deep voice dropping to almost a murmur. It didn't help that his two left paws wouldn't coordinate him efficiently. He had tried play-fighting with his siblings, however it usually ended up with the black wolf cub pinned to the ground, begging for mercy. Orion didn't want to become that kind of dog on the battle field. An easy target. The first to be attacked and killed. Orion shook the thought from his mind. With enough training, maybe Orion could overcome his coordination problem, and be the next Gravity. An aspiring though, however whether it would ever come true was another story. Did Orion have the ability to focus on training everyday? That was what he would have to do. Relentless training, constant fights and battles. Where would this energy even come from? It didn't take much to exhaust Orion.
Listening intently to Alycone, Orion nodded slowly. Alycone had his breed and power on his side to help win fights. What use did a small canine have against a leopard like the one before Orion? When Alcyone began speaking of his father, his ears perked and Orion shuffled forward a little. The words this leopard spoke were full of knowledge and wisdom. The words Alycone spoke to Orion today would stay with the young wolf for the rest of his life. "I understand," Orion murmured. He couldn't make himself a leader without followers to begin with. They would revolt and turn against him. He had to gain trust before that. The dogs that fight to the top don't often stay there for long.
When Alycone spoke of his mother attacking the leopard, Orion let out a small laugh. He had never seen his mother attack anything but prey. "I don't know whether she would. She is rather friendly with a few cats herself." Orion admitted, still rather confused about how and why Rikki conversed with the Iris Pride leader. "After years of torture and brutality, my mother appears weak," Orion whispered foolishly, "Especially after the most likely death of my father." It was idiotic of Orion to point out to a feline the weaknesses of his mother. What if they were to one day meet in battle? He would know exactly how to kill her.
It surprised Orion that Alycone held such morals. Orion knew that not every feline would believe like him. It wouldn't be wise to never attack first, especially with an Iris cat. Orion wondered what he would've done, had he been a year or two older. Would he have attacked Alycone straight away? Would one of them be bleeding out on the rotten floorboards right now? Or would he have greeted Alycone like he had done now? Orion often wondered about his future. He wondered whether he would be bloodthirsty or calm and collected. Something inside of him almost aspired to be like Alycone. He held morals that every canine and feline should hold. It would end the war, end the fighting, end everything. However... Orion was keen on fighting. The thrill of the war excited Orion, and life without war seemed meaningless.
"You never attack first?" Orion reiterated, "Do you never thirst for a fight?" Orion couldn't quite comprehend it. Perhaps Orion had been born with his father's lust for war in his blood. He turned his head suddenly when a rumble of thunder sounded from outside, followed by a flash of lightning nearby. His fur prickled with electricity as he watched the rain pour.
ooc; You are mostly right. I think Gravity also lost faith in himself and left for long periods of time, leaving the Tempest Pack defenceless, hence why Brooke finally took power.

[scrolly:h(290),w(236),sy] The marbled cat could remember vividly his first few days alone. Fear and guilt and pain had been ever present, clutching his heart and tearing at his insides, as if to remind him some more of the fact that he had abandoned his two sisters to their fate. Scared by the now cold and bleak world, he had taken refuge in the trees of the forest. The soft whispering of the leaves, the dappled light, the soft swaying of the branches, it had always been very comforting. When the hunger became unbearable, the youngster had learned to take small prey, then slowly larger prey, until he could take on full grown deer, as his species was known to kill. The hatred that had been growing in his heart had finally decided him to go back into the city. There, he had learned to escape the dogs, mainly by jumping on the rooftops and the trees around. Then, slowly but surely, he had taught himself to fight by observing how dogs and cats fought and imitating their moves and learning to understand his opponents. He had dedicated so much time to it. . . until he realised that not all dogs were as evil as he thought. What had changed his mind was when he had seen a cat attack a mother and her pups. He had jumped in to stop it, and had since developed his morals on dogs.
The pup shuffled forward slightly when he started talking about his father. Obviously he was keen on knowing who his father was. Poor kid, he thought. He didn't know what to believe about his dad. Many rumours went around about Gravity. Some were true, others weren't. It would be very difficult to be his son and not know what is right in the whisperings. Maybe his mother would shed a little light on the matter on the youngster's sire. I understand, said the little one his tone no more than a murmur. The leopard gazed at the pup through half-closed eyes, laying back. He gave a nod, a glint of appreciation in his emerald eyes. ”Good,” he said, ”You're a good kid Orion. Don't mess that up.”
I don't know whether she would. She is rather friendly with a few cats herself. The cat gave a smile, letting his guard drop completely. If the mother wasn't going to attack him if she found them, then he could afford to be more relaxed. After years or torture and brutality, my mother appears weak. Especially after the most likely death of my father. The cat looked at the youngster, his eyes thoughtful for a moment. ”I believe that far from showing weakness, your mother has shown great strength if she has managed to not generalise all felines to be evil and made a few friends among them as well. As you said, after being tortured by them for years. . . Imagine all the anger and sadness, the hatred she must have felt for cats during that time. Well, that would have been my emotions if I had been in the same situation. To be able to overcome that. . .” |
The cat shook his head, disbelief on his traits. ”Takes great mental strength,” he said finally. ”As for your father. . . no one really knows what happened to him. My advice to you, is prepare for the worst but hope for the best.” he said, his eyes softening as he gazed at the youth. You never attack first? Do you never thirst for a fight? The cat gave a small chuckle. It must be difficult to understand his position. Pinching his lips, the clouded leopard decided to answer with the truth. ”I never attack first if I am on loner territory, where loners, dogs and cats alike, have a right to be. If I were in the Iris Pride, and a dog came onto the territory, my only gesture of leniency would be to give them a warning before attacking. And as contradictory as this may seem, there is a part of me that thirsts for fights with canines, to take revenge for the killing of my family. But I am not blinded by this desire to avenge them, which is key.” he said, emphasising the last sentence. His eyes rested on the pup, slightly unsettled by his own honesty to the youngster. Luckily, he wasn't giving the pup any of his weaknesses, he still had a reserve, in case he met this wolf on the battlefield in later years. ”Tell me, young Orion, why are you not in your home den at the moment? Why were you walking in the rain earlier on?” he asked, his head slightly cocked to the side, a slight frown on his traits as he gazed calmly at the young wolf. A flash of lightning briefly illuminated the room, the boom of thunder following soon after. There was a storm coming. Luckily, they had shelter. ---------------------------- words; 830 muse; 9/10 tags; Orion by Picasso!! notes; -- [/scrolly]
