[/i] he spat. ”I wonder why the Tempest Pack accepted you into their midst in the first place, you’re pathetic… But quite fun nonetheless.”[/i] Ryu was unable to answer. His body trembled wildly in a mix of pain and fear, so he couldn’t get a single word across his lips. The big cats terrified him. They were so strong, so invincible. The smaller felines were easier to manage – the pain they caused him wasn’t as nightmarish. And he even dared to give them spiteful comments from time to time. That was quite a goal for him. The little glint of disbelief in their eyes was the only thing that really could give him satisfaction inside this cell. Apart from the times when he could be with Estelle. Oh Estelle… what a terrible friend he was. The felines had learnt how important she was to him, so they sometimes took her away from him so he had to be alone in his cell. Just like now. He wished he had been able to protect her that day when the two lions had found them in the mountains, but what could he have done? Estelle hadn’t been able to run, and he couldn’t have left her there. He hadn’t been strong enough to protect his mother and now he wasn’t strong enough to protect Estelle. What a failure he was – the male leopard was right when he called him pathetic. And why had the Tempest Pack even accepted him? How long had he been a prisoner in this awful place?
His body trembled with pain as the leopard’s claws slashed down on his back like a whip. He cried out as he couldn’t hold the pain inside of him and the feline chuckled darkly behind him. ”So weak,”
The doubts about himself whirled inside his head as a new feline stepped inside the cell. He recognized the bobcat as one of those who guarded his cell, but it was hard to concentrate about the bobcat’s words. The carcass of a hare was thrown in his direction by the guard on the hard concrete floor and then the two felines left him after looking at him with disgust. What a mess he must be. He was often starving and thirsty so he had probably lost a lot of weight and his coat was most likely full of dirt and scars. But all that didn’t really matter to him now. For now he was safe, because the felines had left. Once he hadn’t liked being alone, but as a scum in the Iris Pride, loneliness could be quite relieving. Because even though it was painful not to have Estelle by his side, he at the least didn’t have to endure the torture.
He felt tears welling up in his closed eyes. He couldn’t find a reason to stand up, a reason to open his eyes. The cell in the slaughterhouse was dark though a little window was placed in the top, giving him a little beam of sunlight. So at least he knew when it was night and when it was day. Laying there, Ryu forgot the meal laying just beside him even though it probably was the only thing he would get to eat today. He simply couldn’t find a reason to do anything. For a while, the only thing that could be heard in the cell was the echo of his low cry as the tears continued to fall down his cheeks.
When the empty feeling in his stomach became too much for him, the two year old Canaan Dog finally pulled himself together. He raised his head a little and opened his eyes. For how long had he been lying there? The sun still shone inside his cell, giving him a little light. So at least it was still day… if that even was something good. The felines chose to come into his cell at the most peculiar times at the day, so he never knew if he was most secure in the hours of the day or the night. His eyes felt sore and red from crying and the spotted dog knew it would take some time before more could emerge – no matter how hard he would even want to try, he couldn’t cry anymore. At least not for now. He sighed and looked at the carcass. It wasn’t a whole hare, but it was more than they normally gave him. Did that mean he wouldn’t get anything tomorrow? You never knew with those felines… Gaining whatever strength he had within him, Ryu rose to his four. He felt dizzy as he stood there, all weak and bloody, but it somehow felt good anyway. Somehow, the simple thing of standing up was a victory for him. The two steps he took to reach the carcass took an eternity for him, but it felt good anyway. Walking. How he missed trotting outside, taking in the fresh air. Falling almost on top of his meal, Ryu immediately started to feed greedily on the bones. Maybe the felines hoped he would get a bone stuck in his throat and die like that… No, they wanted to keep him alive. They wanted him as their little pet. How low he had fallen. He needed to do something about that. He heard the guard outside his door leave, but it was all the same. He’d tried for hours every day in the first two weeks to get the door up, and now he knew it was no use. He just lost too much energy by trying. Finishing the hare, Ryu curled together like a ball to keep himself warm on the hard floor. It felt good lying like that. Almost as if he was secure. He tried to reach his back to see if he could lick his wounds there, but it wasn’t of much use. The slashes from the leopard weren’t that big anyway, so it was nothing compared to other things he had tried. They would heal soon enough. Hearing small pawsteps outside his door, Ryu perked up his ears. Was a new guard coming? Or someone else coming to harass him? It sounded like a little feline, so even though Ryu was a coward, he still dared to make a low growl emerge from his throat. Looking at the door, he waited for a response. Waited for something to happen: an angry response, the door opening and a new tormentor coming in… something, anything.
((OOC: Won’t make it this long next time, just needed to get a feel for him again))
