The only light that could possibly filter down into this gloomy abyss was through the doors that once led to the streets above. Deep, dark and silent. Three words that were very apt for this place. It was noon, and the searing sun was beating down on the earth above. The shady subway station offered solace from it's sizzling rays, as well as a chance for food. The occasional scurry of a rat was the only thing that could be heard in this forsaken place. Humans had left it long ago. The lamps from which light usually shown were extinguished, the trains that used to pass in it's shadowy tunnels, stilled forever. Quite the piece of machinery they were. Large, loud and fast, or so those were the words of older cats and dogs who had lived long enough to see them in action.
A tall tortoiseshell tom padded down the first few steps, his mixed coloured eyes peering into this gaping underground station. Right behind him was another tom who resembled him so closely it could be the same cat, copied like mirror. The first cat listened carefully, sensitive ears perked. Yes, all seemed safe. He bounced down the rest of the steps, turning back to his cautious twin, a small smile on his face. See? Nothing down here. Aries could almost hear his twin's voice in his head. Rolling his eyes, the male plodded down the steps, his lowered head and slight frown indicating his grumpiness to his brother. To anyone else, these ever so slight cues could be hard to read, but both twins held no secrets from each other. Both knew the other so well they could almost know each other's thoughts. Cepheus' gaze softened slightly and the tortie walked over to his brother, his tail brushing his ear. The sibling gave a small smile, and the small moment of arrogance was forgiven.
Sticking close together, the felines took in the magnificent sight that was the station. So vast, so interesting. They had been looking for shelter when they had come across the entrance for the metro. Both twins weren't very fond of underground places, but Ceph's curiosity drove both of them to explore this new thing. Besides, they were getting slightly hungry, and a little rat meal was something neither of them could refuse. Listening intently, Aries quickly locked onto a rat foraging on the tracks. Slinking into a crouch, the male flushed the critter, letting his twin pounce onto it. The kill was quick and effortless. They formed a perfect team.
The cats sat down, sharing the rat. They were both so hungry it was gone in minutes. The two males then lay there side by side. ”What do we do now, brother?” The voice belonged to Aries, a sigh escaping his lips. His twin gave him a complicit smile, and Aries knew exactly what he wanted to do. Explore the tunnels. See something new. Both males got up at the same time, preparing to go explore the tunnel, when their ears picked up a faint sound of pawsteps. They looked at each other, wondering if they were going to have company. |

Heart throbbing painfully in her chest, the calico tabby scrambled over a trash can, seconds away from the gnashing teeth of a pursuing coyote. Her whole body strained for enough oxygen to maintain her breakneck speed down the empty street, heaving with each shuddering breath. There were no trees around with a high enough branch to escape the canine. Desperate hunger had forced him on this chase today, Kaycie had inferred this from the ribs protruding from his sides and the sunken look in his eyes. Otherwise the coyote might have rethought trying to hunt down a young and healthy specimen of the feline race. Especially Kaycie, since she was always carrying tricks up her sleeve- just like the one she had just pulled off.
Amidst the sensation of exhaustion, a brief sense of satisfaction warmed her at the sound of his body slamming into the trash can. He had tried to jump it, but too late so his chest and lower limbs had made impact on the solid metal, definitely tripping him up and giving Kaycie a few more seconds to play with. On the other hand, his fury had been provoked further by her actions. It wasn't long before the familiar hot pant from his mouth buffered her heels and tail. I've got to try something else, Kaycie realized with a sinking heart, He's not going to give up now. I'm probably his last chance of a meal. With the sun pressing down hard on both of them, it was only a matter of time before she or the coyote collapsed from heat exhaustion.
Frantically now, her eyes flitted back and forth across the street, hysteria beginning to mount inside of her. I'm going to die, she thought, when a gaping entrance in the ground preserved her last nerve. Even if it wouldn't lose the coyote right away, it would provide shelter from the heat and darkness- everyone knew felines were better in the dark than any canine. She practically flew down the steps, her heart leaping as she stumbled down one of the ledges and barely caught herself in time to keep running. It felt like ages before her eyes finally adjusted, and once they did, she plunged into the hollow cavity where the trains traveled and ducked under one of the carts. The hole was much too small for a canine to fit under.
The petite female crumpled to the floor, gasping for air as the coyote's frustrated yelps echoed down the corridor. "Eat it, sucker!" She growled between breaths, laughing mockingly as he snarled in reply. He dug at the gap until she raked her claws across one of his paws, finally forcing him to give up. Yet, somehow Kaycie knew he would wait here until she came out. Too bad he's too stupid to realized there are multiple ways for me to get out. Once her breathing had returned to normal, Kaycie crawled out to the other side, shakily making sure no one was there before scampered out. She didn't stop until she was at least six carts down the alley, and then paused, dead-silent as she roved for any signs of the coyote following her. Nope, she was safe.
Trotting down the rest of the way on wobbly legs, she didn't realize how loud she had become until the presence of eyes on her hide made her freeze. She scanned around for the owners', locating two almost identical twin toms watching her carefully. She widened her eyes, immediately afraid for their safety. "It's not safe down here!" She blurted, hysteria building up within her once again. Swallowing away her fear, she lowered the pitch of her voice and added more calmly, "I was just chased down here by a coyote. He's still down there, around six or seven carts back. He's insane, I tell you. I suggest we walk in the opposite direction, and quickly." Without waiting to see if they would follow her or not, Kaycie continued walking, her head peering over her shoulder every once in awhile to make sure the coyote wasn't there.

[atrb=cellpadding,0,true][atrb=cellspacing,0,true][atrb=border,0,true] | [atrb=background,http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae113/gimble2355/twinsmiddle.jpg][scrolly:h(330),w(218),sy] Barely had the sound of rapid pawsteps reached the twins ears as a young she-cat came barrelling down the stairs that led to the outside world, completely out of breath. Her eyes were wide with fear, her pace desperate, and soon the source of her terror was revealed. A hungry-looking coyote crashed down the stairs a few seconds after her, making both males scramble onto the roof of the train peering down at the canine. One look was exchanged between the two toms. Oh shit Aries! The brother's eyes looked for the she-cat, watching the paw of the coyote slide in a hole. That must be where she is hiding, thought the tom. Aries took a look at his twin, who knew instantly that he wanted to draw the coyote away from the hidden feline. ”Errr Ari. . .?” Cepheus murmured, his eyes wide with fright. But his twin wasn't listening. His eyes had fallen on a large rock on the top of the train, one that had fallen from the ceiling. It was too big to push on his own. If he could manage to send it toppling over the side of the cart, it would hit the coyote directly. ”Help me,” |
said Aries, his tone determined. Together, the two toms pushed the rock, inch by inch, until with a scrape it fell from the top of the train. A loud yelp told the two cats that they had hit their target. Both males looked over the side of the train, looking to see what damage they had inflicted. The coyote was stumbling, appearing dizzy and unsure on it's paws. A large gash had been opened on it's head where the rock had hit. It stopped, looking up at the two toms on the train, before stumbling away into the tunnel. For good mesure, the twins jumped down onto the tracks, snarling at the coyote. It turned tail and fled, tripping every so often over the wooden planks, breathing labored. It was pitiful really, to see a creature so desperate. With a little luck, it would find a rat to devour. It didn't stop the two cats chasing after it though, only stopping when they were six or seven carts ahead. Then they watched the retreating tawny back of the canine until it disappeared from their sight. Jumping back onto the platform, Aries shook his pelt, riding it of some dust he had picked up. Cepheus looked back towards where the female was, wondering if she was all right. She seemed nimble and smart enough to evade the coyote, so he decided not to worry too much. ”Well, that was pretty cool Ari. Good move with the rock by the way.” His brother gave the smile he had exclusively for his younger twin, caring and good-humoured. ”I know, what would you do without me?” said he, a small laugh escaping his lips. Cepheus gave a smile of recognition, his eyebrows raising for a second. ”Not much,” he admitted, his tail flickering at the other cat's ear. They both chuckled, their laughter cutting short at the faint sound of pawsteps. They both went quiet, listening intently. Definitely feline. Maybe the she-cat the coyote was chasing? She finally came into sight, freezing in her steps. She looked around, searching for something. Her green eyes landed on the pair, and immediately went wide. When she spoke, her voice was clear, high-pitched, fear leaking into it slightly. All in all, she didn't seem too distressed by her encounter with the coyote. It's not safe down here! Cepheus smiled, but Aries' traits indicated no emotion. ”So we saw,” said the latter, his tone neither friendly nor unfriendly. It was merely a matter-of-fact declaration, but those Aries pronounced often rubbed strangers the wrong way. I was just chased down here by a coyote. He's still down there, around six or seven carts back. He's insane, I tell you. I suggest we walk in the opposite direction, and quickly. A charming smile stretched on Ceph's lips, already sauntering towards the young female. She had passed them, walking quickly down the tunnel. ”Well, I suggest you don't go down that way, darling,” said the tomcat suavely, ”That's where me and my bro chased the sucker.” He puffed out his chest, giving the she-cat a smouldering look under his eyebrows. Behind him, an amused smile passed on Ari's lips for a fraction of a second, watching his brother flirting with the she-cat. It would be fun to look how she reacted. She didn't seem threatening though, as she had seemed genuinely frightened for his and his twin's safety when she had seen them. He let his guard down slightly, not smiling but looking a lot friendlier than he had a few seconds ago. ”The name's Aries, by the way, and this is my brother Cepheus,” he said calmly, his stretching in a charming smile of his own. He wasn't the casanova his brother was, but he sure could spot a pretty lady when one appeared. ”Who may you be, my darling?” asked the twin, his voice pleasantly casual, retaining all the charm of his previous sentences. Hopefully, the coyote would leave them alone long enough to get to know this she-cat. ------------------------------- words; 873 muse; 8/10 tags; Smudge with Kaycie <3 notes; It's fine! Kaycie slowed at the sound of one of the tom's responses. Their tone, unaffected by the news, she suddenly wondered if she had just made up the whole ordeal in her head. She turned around, eyes flitting back and forth in the darkness as she struggled to tell the two apart. Their voices were nearly indistinguishable as well, so she had to focus on which animal made the noise to tell who was who. She furrowed her eyebrows, confused as to why they weren't concerned. They're mocking me, the tabby calico assumed, a frown wiping away the fear on her expression. She couldn't tell if the one who had spoken first was being sarcastic or not. The second at least offered her a smile, yet apart of her wondered if it was a friendly one or not.
”Well, I suggest you don't go down that way, darling...that's where me and my bro chased the sucker.”
Kaycie's head jerked back in confusion, first glancing at where she had last seen the coyote and then back behind her, where the pair of twins had supposedly chased the beast. When she looked back at the two, the tortie with the smile had moved closer while the other appeared to be at least a little more friendly looking. She raised an eyebrow, left lip lifting into an amused smile. "If I'm not mistaken, I believe you two hooligans are mocking me!" She cracked with a teasingly indignant expression.
”The name's Aries, by the way, and this is my brother Cepheus,”
The voice belonged to the more aloof feline in the back. She tried even harder to find the small differences in their coloring now so she wouldn't get the two confused. Cepheus seemed to have just a tiny bit more of orange on his face, if she was seeing correctly. "You're gonna have to remind me eventually. You two could pass for the same cat!" She replied, knowing they probably got that a lot, and her reply was just many of most repetitive reactions. "But you probably get that a lot, right?" She added, hoping it would excuse the common reaction. They were both handsome and charming lads, so she would play along with the flirting for now. As long as it remained harmless...Kaycie had experienced her fill of scary situations for today.
”Who may you be, my darling?”
Kaycie's eyes fixed themselves back on the closer male, her face twisting into a look of playful coyness. "Not yours, I can at least assure you of that." She flicked her tail, still trying to figure out how she had missed the two males chasing off the coyote. I was probably too busy running for my life. Kaycie shrugged it off; at least she was relatively safe now. "Kaycie. Pleased to meet you, my fellow heroes. How may I repay the debt?" She almost regretted asking the question. With a couple of jokesters like these two, she had just opened herself up for a teasing reply. Oh well...it wasn't like they were bad company. It was refreshing to have a little fun now and then, amidst all the seriousness in Hexasol at the moment. _________________________________ ooc; :3

[atrb=cellpadding,0,true][atrb=cellspacing,0,true][atrb=border,0,true] | [atrb=background,http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae113/gimble2355/twinsmiddle.jpg][scrolly:h(330),w(218),sy] The twins watched the young female as she slowed, reacting to the sound of Aries' voice. Her pretty form turned around, eyeing them both in an almost suspicious way. The oldest twin watched her closely; her slightly furrowed brow, her flitting eyes. She seemed to be trying to determine who had spoken, as both males resembled each other so much. There were so many cats and dogs who they had met which were unable to distinguish one from the other. They didn't mind though, they were so used to it, it had become a part of their lives. For the observant creature, the most obvious difference were the eyes. Ceph's were green, laced with gold around the outside, but mostly green. His twin's were mostly golden, with a contour of green around the pupil. So, mostly a fierce yellow. It took really good observation skills to notice this subtle difference. This female seemed confused though, and slightly suspicious. A frown came to her eyebrows, replacing the fear as principal emotion on her face. Aries looked at her carefully, deciding that she was wondering why they weren't concerned about the coyote. Well, if it decided to come back, they would definitely see it coming, and the escape route was quick to the top of the train. Cepheus, for his part, remained oblivious to this suspicion on her part, and couldn't really understand the significance of the frowned eyebrows.
At Cepheus' words, her head turned back towards the place she had dove in a hole under the train, the place where the coyote had tried to kill her. Luckily, the twins had been there to make the coyote give up the young female for something easier to catch. She then turned back to them, her eyebrow lifting delicately and an amused smile playing with her lips. Cepheus' smile widened slightly, delighted that she was playing the game. He just loved it when the ladies got involved. Aries smiled internally, knowing that his brother would have a blast with this pretty she-cat. He knew it would be a nice discussion also, as she seemed to be pretty smart herself. She also seemed as much of a trickster as his brother was, and she probably played pranks on creatures from time to time. Just like him and his brother. If I'm not mistaken, I believe you two hooligans are mocking me! Her tone was falsely indignant, teasing them with elegance. Ceph's right lip curled up in a charming smile once more. Then, his eyebrows lifted, his eyes becoming round with innocence and despite the truth of his next words, mischief glinted in his mixed-coloured eyes. ”Certainly not my dear! See, when we saw you running for your life, pursued by that cowardly coyote, we couldn't help but come sailing to the rescue of a pretty damsel in distress like yourself,” said the younger twin. ”My eyes suddenly fell on this large rock on the top of the train, and I had an idea to push it. . .” |
his brother added, letting his twin finish his sentence for him. ”. . .right onto the coyote's head. Shoulda seen him. Tipsy!” Cepheus completed flowingly, his tone slightly boasting. ”Then we chased him all the way down here, and he skulked off down that way,” his twin said, indicating the tunnel she had been heading to. You're gonna have to remind me eventually. You two could pass for the same cat! Both males chuckled at her words, smiles playing with both their lips. They exchanged a glance. It was a reaction they often got from other felines, seeing how identical they were. ”Well, I'll make sure to keep you from getting confused. Although, I am plainly the friendlier, hotter, more charming brother,” said Cepheus, smiling teasingly at his brother before looking back into her pretty green eyes. Aries gave a swift smile behind him, rolling his eyes at his brother's boasts. He did have a tendency to exaggerate his qualities. Lifting himself up on his paws, the older sibling walked calmly towards his brother, feeling that his reluctance to participate in the conversation could come across as rude. He was just being cautious after all. It was his job to protect his younger brother, so he had to make sure that every creature they encountered didn't want to harm them. But you probably get that a lot, right? Aries gave a smile, nodding. ”Most creatures get confused when they meet us. If you're unsure who's who. . .” Cepheus swiftly completed: ”. . . look for our eyes: mine are greener. Ari's are more yellow. Tadaa! Confusion finished.” At Ceph's question, her expression became more teasing, taking on a slight coyness that even made Aries smile. She definitely knew how to play the game, that was sure. Not yours, I can at least assure you of that. Cepheus chuckled, an appreciative smile playing with his lips. It was rather obvious that her name wasn't either of theirs, unless by some immense stroke of luck, she happened to have been named a masculine name. Aries tried to calculate the odds of that happening. There were thousands of names available to name your kits, and the fact that she was a female and both their names were male meant that her parents would have decided to give her a masculine name, which was rare. . . The odds were probably one in a few billion. Cepheus picked up on his moment of thoughtfulness. He smiled inwardly at his brother's tendency to calculate and analyse everything. His attention flitted back to the female as she spoke again. Kaycie. Pleased to meet you, my fellow heroes. How may I repay the debt? Cepheus' smile widened, taking on a very teasing air. ”Well, Kaycie. . .” he started, pronouncing her name with a purr in his voice. He trailed off, sensing that his brother had an idea. ”. . .tell us, you're a trickster aren't you?” his brother asked, his penetrating eyes locked on her face. Her expression would tell him everything. ”Because in that case, humour us. Tell us about a few pranks you pulled,” he continued, his smile inviting confidence. His brother gave another charming smile. A trickster huh? Well, he could definitely get along with that! ------------------------------- words; 1043 muse; 10/10 tags; Smudge with Kaycie! notes; Omg, I was on fire this morning. Kaycie couldn't shake the level-headed stare given to her by Aries. Although both cats were staring intently at her, there was something more calculating, more thoughtful, about the distant tom's eyes. What an intriguing pair, thought the calico, a smile still visible on her lips. They were so different, yet worked so well together. The way the conversed suggested one brother already knew what the other was thinking. She was sure after years of living together they had mastered the telepathic skill, and a little bit of her envied it. After all, only one of her two siblings had made it past a few weeks, and even then, disappeared under a collapsing structure never to be seen again. The memory was so remote that Kaycie struggled to recall how her relationship with her only brother had been. Grief stabbed her heart. She hadn't thought of her broken family in a long time...and it was better that way.
”Certainly not my dear! See, when we saw you running for your life, pursued by that cowardly coyote, we couldn't help but come sailing to the rescue of a pretty damsel in distress like yourself," ”My eyes suddenly fell on this large rock on the top of the train, and I had an idea to push it. . .” ”. . .right onto the coyote's head. Shoulda seen him. Tipsy! "Then we chased him all the way down here, and he skulked off down that way.”
Pushing the retentions aside, Kaycie nodded slowly, piecing the story together in her mind. It made sense, any fool would know that. She decided to dispose her suspicions and relax a little more, sighing as her tense muscles released their unwavering grip on her figure. ”Well, I'll make sure to keep you from getting confused. Although, I am plainly the friendlier, hotter, more charming brother.” Kaycie couldn't help but laugh a little, knowing that the other brother was comfortable with Cepheus' teasing words. "Oh, never to worry, I'd say you both are a couple o' handsome fellows," She purred, a playful gleam still evident in her eyes. They were a charming pair, and unusual too. It wasn't everyday you found a male cat with tortoiseshell markings, let alone two. Although possible, the coloring was much more rare for the opposite gender. They must have the girls crawling all over them. Kaycie thought as Aries padded up closer. Now she would really have to focus with the two twins side by side.
”Most creatures get confused when they meet us. If you're unsure who's who. . .” ”. . . look for our eyes: mine are greener. Ari's are more yellow. Tadaa! Confusion finished.”
Her own set of emerald irises briefly flicked back and forth at the discovery, shocked to find she had bypassed that fact. It was obvious if you knew what to look for. Mentally storing the information in her brain, Kaycie dipped her head. "That should help, thanks." She was relieved to see the two of them relaxing in her company and even playing along with her jokes. It was all she could ask for after nearly being eaten alive by a coyote. ”Well, Kaycie. . .” Kaycie watched Cepheus carefully, but it was Aries who continued the message. ”. . .tell us, you're a trickster aren't you?” She smirked, knowing he would receive the answer simply from that. For a moment, Kaycie wondered if Aries could read her every expression like a book. He must be good at reading faces from years of doing it with his brother, she noted, the smirk unchanged on her muzzle. ”Because in that case, humour us. Tell us about a few pranks you pulled.” Kaycie's smile grew into a full-fledged grin at that statement. If there was something she loved, it was pranks, and it wasn't every day someone wanted to listen to a couple of your own.
Her eyes brimmed with excitement, but she lowered herself elegantly into a sitting position, her tail wrapped over her paws in matter-of-factly fashion. "Well boys, I shall have to see," She began, mulling over her past memories to try and sift through all the pranks she had pulled off down the years. "The best ones I've had so far are confessing to a false crime, or even pregnancy...and oh! There was this one time a dog and I were going to pretend we were madly in love to trick his friend...shame the whole scheme never worked out!" Kaycie paused, not wanting to reveal anything specific in case she would try and trick these two in the future. She never knew what tricks they might have up their sleeve, anyways, so it was always smart to be safe. "What about you two? Have any good ones? Or even better...any friends we could have a little fun with?" _________________________________ ooc; wooooot! haha

[atrb=cellpadding,0,true][atrb=cellspacing,0,true][atrb=border,0,true] | [atrb=background,http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae113/gimble2355/twinsmiddle.jpg][scrolly:h(330),w(218),sy] Aries lay down, his front legs stretching out in front of him, without taking his eyes off the young female. She was beautiful, he had to give her that. Her delicate traits, high cheekbones and slim face gave an air of alertness and intelligence, and her deep emerald eyes seemed to glint with mischief continuously. They say the eyes are the window to the soul. And hers seemed to give off an air of playfulness and energy. Cepheus, on the other hand, didn't notice any of that; he only knew she was extremely pretty, and that she was flirting with him, and that why he liked her. They both resembled one another in many ways, notably the propensity to play pranks and the youthful joy that they continually displayed. Aries knew that his twin would get along with her. He would too, but the real connection there was between his brother and Kaycie. He didn't mind though; he wished his brother happiness, and to be happy, Cepheus needed friends. Her eyes kept flitting between him and his brother, and a for a tiniest fraction of a second, a peculiar emotion leaked through. Drooped eyelids, corners of the mouth lowered. . . It was unmistakably grief. She had been looking at both of them, siblings. Maybe she didn't have brothers or sisters, or maybe she had some and they died. In any way, his eyes softened. He couldn't imagine life without Cepheus. If he were to be gone from his side. . . no, he couldn't bear it. ”I'm sorry,” he said quietly to Kaycie, without really thinking. As soon as the words were out of his mouth, he regretted them. Most creatures didn't like being read. Cepheus glanced at his brother, aware that he had missed something.
At their story, the young female relaxed, her muscles loosened and she signed slightly. Obviously, she had been keeping her guard up, ready to bolt if the coyote came back, or even them tried to attack her. Smart girl, thought Aries. Cepheus felt gratified that he had helped to reassure this pretty damsel, and his chest puffed out once more, a charming smile stretched his lips, and he was back on flirt mode. There was something refreshing about playing games with females. It was all about play. Entertaining oneself and others, meeting new people. It was creating a connection with one another, discovering new things. But mostly, he liked the feeling of trying to find ways for the female to like him, in a way, seeing what made a peculiar female tick. It was being perceptive, but in his own way, not by reading faces, but by playing games. Oh, never to worry, I'd say you both are a couple o' handsome fellows. Aries chuckled, his brother's smile widening. Ha, thought the oldest, a smug smile on his lips. Cepheus gave a laugh in return, shaking his head at his brother's arrogance. Although, on that level, Cepheus pretty much beat him any time. His cockyness was matched only by his ego, but although Ceph knew about his faults, he didn't feel he had to do much about them.
That should help, thanks. Cepheus gave once more a one-sided smile, the one he reserved exclusively for pretty females. Aries gave a nod and a smile, which even though contained some of Ceph's charms, was less flirtatious than his brother. At his question about being a prankster, the female gave a smirk. Both Aries and Cepheus smiled. Oh yes, she was a trickster all right. Her smile only widened at his demand for her to tell them what pranks she pulled, confirming the earlier assumption. The twins were going to get along with her. She sat down, elegantly, her tail wrapping around her paws. She certainly knew how to keep one in suspense. Well boys, I shall have to see. They were eager to find out what kind of tricks she usually did. After all, there were many ways of tricking someone, like practical jokes or lies. The best ones I've had so far are confessing to a false crime, or even pregnancy...and oh! There was this one time a dog and I were going to pretend we were madly in love to trick his friend...shame the whole scheme never worked out! Both males laughed; she was good. Aries picked up on the vagueness of her tricks. She didn't go into details, as if cautious of the information she would give. Maybe she's planning to trick us, thought Aries. In that case, he would have to be careful with her. He smiled internally. He was really beginning to like this female.
