every chance they get they're always pushing me away. Sunlight flashed brightly off the ripples that disturbed the dark surface of the lake, a littering of golden leaves adding a sort of live to the seemingly dead waters. A cool breeze rippled through the trees lining the edge of the icy water, a few lone clouds drifting lazily through the sky. A dark figure plodded slowly along the waters edge, large paws snapping twigs and disturbing the calming silence of the lake. Tonka's head swung towards the water, soulful brown eyes staring out over the large expanse, a soft sigh emenating from his jowls as he plopped down onto his rump. His tail brushed across the plant life behind him and a content smile found its way to his face. The water was just so darn pretty.
Another breeze blew by, tugging at Tonka's body as if it wanted him to float away with it and spend his days playing with the ever elusive wind. The big dog sniffed at the air, hope filling his eyes. He hadn't met anyone from around here yet, so far he'd just had his parents, a few of his former pack mates, and a grumpy rogue or two. The thought that no one wanted to be around him was not a surprising one, but either way it still heart his gentle heart. He didn't understand why he wasn't good enough for anyone. He knew he was stupid, and he knew he wasn't going to amount to anything, but that didn't mean he couldn't have friends, did it?
He sighed again, this time considerably louder than the last, feeling rather dejected and upset. He just wanted to have someone around who was as jovial as he normally was. He wanted someone who would watch out for him, but also join in his childish views on fun. He didn't understand that no one found pleasure in babysitting a fully grown dog.
it's never enough, no it's never enough, no matter what i say.

[atrb=cellpadding,0,true][atrb=cellspacing,0,true][atrb=border,0,true] | [atrb=background,http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae113/gimble2355/twinsmiddle.jpg][scrolly:h(330),w(218),sy] The day was warm, but pleasantly so. Unlike previous days, where the heat had been almost intolerable, even for the two short-furred cats, the sun didn't beat down upon the earth with as much strength as it did. A cool breeze would periodically sweep past them, ruffling their tortoiseshell fur and caressing their faces as they hunted in the forest. The trees were thick, their foliage blocking out most of the sun's light and giving it a cool shade, the few rays that slipped through dappling the forest floor with golden dots of luminosity. Prey was out and about in numbers that had so far been unheard of this summer, as the drought had driven many bigger species away. Luckily, small, burrowing creatures had stayed in impressive groups, and both males hadn't suffered too much from lack of food, like bigger creatures had.
Their bounty for the day had been good, and they were both full and happy. The two voles and one starling they had caught had disappeared quickly and the twins were now basking in the sunlight, settled comfortably on a thin branch which swayed lightly in the wind. A small songbird lighted down on a branch above them, bursting into song right next to their ears. Both cats woke up with a jolt, looking around for the source of the sound. The wise bird had flown off as soon as they had woken, and both cats were left to grumble and snarl, annoyed of being awoken. Cepheus, who was now fully awake and unwilling to go back to sleep, prodded his brother until he was fully awake. Aries gave a moody look at his twin before cooperating and getting up, balancing perfectly on the small branch and making his way down. What do you wanna do? meant the questioning look that the eldest shot his brother. His twin answered by lowering himself into a crouch, ready to spring into a run. His brother smiled, knowing that his brother wanted to race him. ” To the lake,” said Cepheus, his tone playful.
Aries gave the signal and both cats were off, tearing through the forest, jumping over logs and rocks, flying over the ground. Both cats knew the forest in and out, and they were right on each other's tails the whole time. At one point Aries was in front, then it was Cepheus, the back to the oldest twin. . . Their strengths were equal and as they arrived at the edge of the lake, both cats were side by side. Their paws touched the water at the same time and they plopped down, completely out of breath. ”Tie?” |
asked Cepheus, sprawled spread-eagle on the ground. ”Tie.” answered his brother, laying on his side. Slowly, their breathing turned back to normal, and Aries noticed there was a large Great Dane on the shore, farther to the right. The male flicked his tail at his brother's ear, catching his attention and nodding towards the large dog. Cepheus, always eager for friends, got up, walking cautiously towards the dog. Aries wasn't sure that it was a good idea, seeing the size of the beast, but then he saw the innocence and kind-heartedness in the canine's large, expressive eyes and decided there was no danger. ”Hey there!” said Cepheus, a friendly smile on his lips. ”Nice day isn't it?” asked his twin, unsmiling but his eyes soft. This canine seemed gentle enough, and the cats walked closer. The twins could always do with another friend.
