Florence enjoyed night time. It was the best part of the day, when the sun gave up its job and left the moon to supply the light along with its stars. The stars would twinkle defiantly, but they would never match the sun. The the light was weak and the darkness blanketed over the city, engulfing it in pitch black. The alleys became the creepiest at this time of day, when only cats could make out the dark figures. Stupid dogs would never be able to see in the dark like felines could. Florence smiled at how superior felines were to dogs. They had razor sharp claws, the ability to see in the dark, agility to climb trees and buildings, and many more. What did dogs have? Filth? They stank of shit everyday because they didn't have the knowledge to clean themselves like cats could and they were complete idiots. "Fools." She muttered under her breath as she padded around the alleyways, zig-zagging about to find new places.
There were a network of alleys that connected to each other, all owned by the Iris Pride. If a dog was found padding through here, he'd be killed almost immediately, unless Florence wanted him to become a slave for the Iris Pride. Scum were so interesting and entertaining these days. As she hopped up onto an abandoned skip, Florence peered into the stinking tip, before jumping up onto the fire exit that was attached to the building beside her. She padded up the metal stairs, her claws clicking in the silence. It was a fairly wet day, with rain frequent every few hours, meaning the stairs had become slippery and dangerous. It was no match for Florence, however, as she padded to the balcony that overhung beside the stairs, and jumped onto it.
Sniffing around, she perched on the ledge happily, staring down at the alley. This was the perfect place to detect intruders. Here, she'd be able to see everyone that would pass, and most of them probably wouldn't even notice Florence dangling quite a few feet above them. She rested his chin on her front two paws and dangled her hind legs either side of the thick banister, before waiting to see who would walk around the next corner.

"Aughh, Makara, I'm tiredddd." The lazy drawl pierced the silent darkness of the alleys, and the Goshawk flapped his wings around for emphasis. The large tiger simply grumbled and rolled her eyes. "Redeye, you've been perched on my shoulder the entire journey across Iris Pridelands, and you're telling me you're tired?" The female retorted and rolled her shoulders back and forth, just to cause Redeye to lose his balance. To save himself from falling, he flapped his wings and hovered beside her for a moment. "Oh, that was just plain rude. And uncalled for, at that. You're a bad friend, Makara." If a bird could pout, he would be right now. Makara, knowing it was just a ploy of his to let him sit on her shoulder again, simply snickered. "Oh shush, you big hatchling. If I was a bad friend, would I have let you sit on my shoulder in the first place?" Redeye simply huffed and flapped more vigorously so he was now cruising about above her head, his red eyes gleaming in the darkness.
Now, out of the two, Makara had better eyesight - after all, she was a feline - yet Redeye had a bird's eye view, which was helpful to the pair in several ways. "Can you see anybody nearby from up there?" After a moments silence, Redeye responded. "I think I can see another cat up ahead. Pretty big, too, bigger than a domestic feline." The tiger grinned, fluffing her fur out slightly. Finally. It had been a while since she'd seen a cat that had even reached her shoulder, maybe it was Florence, the leader of the Iris Pride, one she'd only spoke with a couple of times, yet it had been brief. Maybe now they could get to know each other better? Quickening her pace, the female's muscles bulged and rippled beneath her sheek pelt as Redeye flew on ahead, hovering about ten feet above her. He then came to a halt about five feet away from Florence, peering at her inquisitively. Makara chuckled at Redeye, shaking her head slightly, before turning the corner and planting her rump on the ground, looking up to where she saw Redeye and Florence.
"Redeye, quit hovering over the Queen like that." The Goshawk chirped and flew down to perch on Makara's shoulder. Swivelling her gaze upwards, she let her murky green gaze latch onto the shadowy shape of the lioness. "Sorry about him, he likes to be a bother." "Hey! I'm still here." Makara ignored his comment, a small smirk on her lips, and she waited for a response to come from the other big cat.

Florence wasn't sure how long she'd been up there, looking down on the alleys. The night was still young, Florence was sure of that. When she was alone, it was a perfect time to just think and plan and wonder about the future. She had yet to find an Accomplice or a Deputy to the Iris Pride. What would happen to the pride if she was suddenly killed? (not that she would be killed. she was far too powerful for that). It was still a frightening thought. The Pride could die without her being there. Or there would be conflict between the members as they all fought over the lead spot. She shuddered. No, Florence would have to find some trustworthy members to assign as a Deputy. Then she'd be happy.
The sudden sound of flapping quickly dragged her out of her thoughts, and she irritably looked over to see a bird flapping around her. Glaring, and without much thought, she batted out one paw angrily. She wasn't interested in a stupid little bird flustering her up. Before she could say anything, a voice entered the air, and she looked down to see a large Tigress in between the alley. How had she not spotted her in the first place?! Hissing under her breath, she stood up and jumped back to the steps, then onto the skip, and finally back onto the firm ground.
"Control that bird otherwise my jaws might slip." She said as she glared up at the bird, "You must be awfully tasty." |
With a smile, she turned back to the Tigress and tilted her head, You are a warrior, are you not? Any fights that I should know about?" She asked before they could start a proper conversation. [/blockquote][/blockquote]

She smirked even wider as the lioness's irritated lyrics pierced the almost unsettling silence of the alley. So she wasn't a big fan of birds then? Ah, no matter, she'd just have to keep an eye on Redeye whilst she was around, just to make sure her companion wasn't turned into a hawk shish-kebab. Although, that would look rather amusing, and she surpressed a giggle. As if he could read thoughts, Redeye chirped sharply and dug his talons into her shoulder, just hard enough to leave a mark. Makara quckly turned to look over her at him and narrowed her eyes, growling. Redeye looked up at the lioness as she directed words at him, and flapped his wings unceremoniously.
"Me? Tch, no way. All skin and bones, I am, ma'am." Makara fought the urge to laugh, instead she cleared her throat. "Yes, I should get a lead for him or something. He can be rather unruly." "I'm not your pet!" Makara smirked. "Oh, go and hunt some disease-infested rodent or something." Without another word, Redeye swooped off into the night. Watching him go, Makara snickered and turned back to Florence. She nodded when the other female asked if she was a warrior, and at her next inquiry, she shrugged. "I haven't been involved in any in a while. There were, however, some mutts hanging around the border earlier. All I had to do was chase them off, too cowardly to fight me." She paused for a moment, before continuing.
"Although, I heard that there was one a couple of days ago between some of our warriors and a couple of Tempest dogs. Although, you may already know this?" She fell silent and waited for Florence to reply.

Florence smirked. Well at least her and the Tigress were on the same wavelength. She desired to rip that stupid bird's head off of that neck of his, but she resisted. The female in front of her probably wouldn't be too pleased with that, and it could cost her a warrior. She watched as the useless bird flew up into the sky and disappeared to search for food. Finally, they were alone. She turned back to the Tiger, rolling her eyes and glaring a little. Florence had never been fond of birds herself. Birds were for eating, not for making friends with, yet it didn't seem like this Tiger had gotten the idea. Florence didn't say anything on the matter, however, as it was none of her business.
Her eyes narrowed at the sound of dogs hanging around the borders. "Worthless wretches. You should've finished them off for loitering around her." She cursed under her breath. Why had she not been informed of this sooner? Florence was sure that she needed more warriors to guard the outskirts of the packlands, otherwise dogs might invade easily and break them before they even got a chance. Mind racing, Florence tried to think about what she should do to increase security on the Iris Pride. If she recruited more warriors, then perhaps those grotty canines wouldn't bother the borders anymore.
At the mention of the fight that had occurred a few days ago, Florence nodded slowly and chewed her bottom lip. She'd been informed, but the details weren't exact. No one had bothered to tell her who had won, or been injured, or killed. "I know little of the matter. Let's walk." |
She said as she began to pad down the alleyway. It was barely wide enough for two fully grown big cats, but they managed as their fur brushed together and they walked side by side, going no place in particular. A cold breeze brushed past the tigress, and she would have shuddered, had she not been a hardy cat, used to the cold. She was a Siberian tiger, for crying out loud. Why would she even feel the cold? If anything, she rather enjoyed a walk in the snow. Yet, she liked heat more. Like every single cat, she loved to bask in the sun. Her tail flicked about behind her, and her pale green eyes fixed upon the lioness before her. If she was honest, she really couldn't imagine the Leader of the Iris Pride to be a small cat, so it was no surprise that a big cat was the founder of the Iris Pride. She couldn't imagine herself as Leader, though. Deputy? Perhaps. She liked to be helpful, especially to those higher ranking than her - though by no means was she a kissup, she hated those clingy, leecherous felines.
As Florence spoke, she abruptly turned her massive head to look over at her. "I should have, yes." She rolled her shoulders back and forth and rose to her paws to stretch herself out. Something in her neck clicked, but she didn't worry about that too much. It's not like she'd broken anything. Straightening herself back up, her ears twitched as the lioness spoke again. Nodding, she walked alongside the tawny pelted female, uttering a reply as she did so. "It happened before dawn. They probably assumed that they'd be able to infiltrate easier in the early hours, but there were a couple of warriors at hand. Unfortunately, I wasn't present at the time, I was informed later. I do know, though, that we won, yet there were casualties. Pretty severe, at that. The mutts were sent packing with their tails between their legs, but it was a close call, apparently."

The network of alleys were endless, all containing the writhing scent of cats. If a dog would end up here, they would probably be sick from the complete stench of it all. Florence worked well to get all members of the pride or chip in and mark their scent everywhere. They were gradually expanding the borders, inch by inch. Every week they would go out a little further and mark their scent a bit further out, to show that they were getitng bigger. The alleys were a new addition to the Pride, and Florence was proud of gaining control of them. They were frightening places with good places to lurk, hide and listen to conversations. A great place for spies to figure out whether they had a traitor on their team.
As Florence listened to the Tigress speak about the fight that had occurred a few days ago, the Lioness growled under her breath. So these dogs thought they were smart enough to attack them, did they? Well, they'd see about that. "It's good that warriors were there to attack them and drive them away, otherwise things could've gone a lot worse." She said, wondering whether she'd be able to compliment them herself. Stopping suddenly, she looked around, making sure there was no one about to overhear her.
"I don't know you too well, Tigress, but I do know that we need to tighten the guarding around the barriers of the lands. Twenty four-seven we need to make sure everyone has their eyes peeled. Whether they are spies, hunters or warriors, we need to make sure they are ready for an attack." |
She paused, wondering whether she'd be able to speak freely around Makara. "Soon, very, very soon, we are planning a kidnapping. That's all you need to know for now as even I don't know the details. One of my fellow spies is already doing her business and it won't be long before everyone will slot into place. She paused, before stepping very close to the female, her jaws inches away from her fur, "And if I've heard you've told anyone of this, your neck will be split open and you'll be bleeding all over the rotten floor, understand me?" She hissed lowly. "I'm glad that there were no fatalities amongst our warriors, we can't afford to lose anyone." The tigress contemplated aloud, pale green eyes gleaming into the darkness, swivelling around to see if she could catch sight of any others lurking in the shadows ahead, eavesdropping. God forbid if there were, especially if they were dogs. Makara's eyes lit up as she imagined how much bloodshed there would be if they came across a mutt right now. Beneath her pelt, his muscles knotted and writhed as she moved. Heavy paws thudded against the tarmac as she moved with an easy gait, her legs carrying her steadily through the alleys, keeping pace with the Queen.
Makara nodded in agreement with the lioness as she spoke. "Yes, it was a struggle, but they did well to see of those filthy vermin." Clearing her throat, she inhaled the cool night air. As Florence came to an abrupt halt, Makara did also, turning her head to the side and listening keenly as the lioness allowed information to escape into the night. Of course, the pair had to be careful that nobody else heard them. God only knew how catastrophic that would be. "Of course, ma'am. I constantly make sure I am on constant vigil, wherever I am, whether it's by the borders of our territory or not." That was the truth. Wherever she went, she was on constant watch for anyone who thought they could sneak up on her. Even now, she was aware of what was going on around her. But all felines were at least semi-aware of things going on around them. Even the stupid ones.
Well.... she could be wrong on that one.
Never the less, she discarded that thought when Florence suddenly spoke again, of a kidnapping. Now this caught her attention. She remained deadly calm, although she couldn't help but feel a little unsettled when the lioness's threat reached her ears. Well, she certainly wasn't someone to annoy. "Hah, you have no need to contemplate such disloyalty from me, ma'am. Trust me, I hate rats as much as you do..." She took note of the threatening expression on the lioness. "...well maybe not as much, but yeah. Anyway, if I can be of any help, I'd like to assist."

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=width,450,true] | [atrb=background,http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d146/---Kirstie---/florencemiddle-1.png] Florence nodded. This one was wise. She was sick of the foolish little cats that came into her Pride, expecting everything to be handed to them on a plate. This pride was tough and they should do well to remember that. Florence didn't want her Pride to go to the dogs, yet it seemed that many other members didn't seem to care. This wasn't a holiday. This was a matter between life and death. Florence wondered whether she could knock the sense into them. Stupid, little, rattish fools. She didn't know why she bothered sometimes. Turning her head back to Makara, Florence realised that she was vaguely proud that she could remember her name. There weren't many large cats in her pride, so she was doing well remembering all their names. As for the smaller cats... well, they were disposable.
Florence smiled and raised her head, trying not to look down her nose at the Tigress too much. "You seem trustworthy. Keep it up and your rank may ascend." Her eyes twinkled, wondering whether this Makara female would be able to cope with a higher rank. It seemed so. Florence seemed to have some sort of radar system in her head to detect the truthful from the not-to-be-trusted, and it looked like Makara was genuine. Florence knew not to make any rash decisions just yet, and to wait a while to make sure they were completely set on being an Iris member. How much of a mistake would it be if Florence died, leaving the pack in the paws of an awful leader?
"If I need any help I'll ask for you. I hope you don't mind torture?" |
She smiled evilly, thinking about the wonderful ways to mentally and physically torture another being. Oh how Florence was going to be looking forward to that. [/blockquote][/blockquote]
