PERSONALITY |
Layden is a solitary dog. He hates crowds and prefers to be alone. He loves it underground for no real reason. At least, no reason he can think of. He seems quite brave and he is when he wants to be. He is prone to running away though. Layden's motto is "A coward may not be honorable, but at least he's alive."
Layden is protective. What of? Everything. His food, his home (however temporary it may be), his personal life, his few (or nonexistent) friends. Layden may be yellow-bellied, but he doesn't show it too much as he's quite strong from his years alone and doesn't lose many fights. It also helps that he's bigger than most his breed and weighs more as well.
Layden is also quite secretive, which I suppose is understandable in a loner, no one knows much about him other then his name (though many don't even know that!) and he doesn't hand out information like it's a free-for-all. He's hard to get close to, but is actually quite a softie inside. Though no one has found that out yet.
In short Layden is strong, brave, a little bit of a coward, solitary, a softie, secretive, and really a good guy at the heart.• likes | He enjoys being alone, he hates being around others. He also likes the underground, perhaps for it's solitary loneliness.
• dislikes | Well, he's defiantly not friendly towards cats, but he also has a slight fear of water, though no one knows why. He also doesn't like being around others.
• goals | His only goal is to stay alive, he's never had reason to strive for anything else
• fears | As said before he doesn't like water, though he also hates death and fears it.
• strengths | Layden is strong from his many years alone. He's become fast and can lope along for hours at a time. He's also very protective, which could also be a weakness.
• weaknesses | Layden won't swim. Ever. Out of the question. If he has a chance to hurt a cat, he'll take it. He's also a bit of a softie when it comes to puppies.
• mental disorders | optional
APPEARANCE |
Layden is a blue merle or the typical color you think of when you hear the words 'australian shepherd'. His fur is long and he sheds constantly. His eyes, like most of his kind are different colors, one is a light blue (like the sky), the other is a dark chocolate brown that almost blends in with the pupil (like a dark chocolate Hershey bar). His taller than most of his breed and weighs about 67 pounds, which is also typical of his kind. He has a short scar across his muzzle from a run in with a cat that he doesn't enjoy to discuss. Most people, when they first meet him, notice his eyes first, since they are so unusual and they contrast each other so much.• height |

HISTORY |
Layden doesn't like discussing his past, that is, when he ever discusses anything. But, the unfortunate truth is.....his parents abandoned him. More like his parent. He was raised by his mother who disappeared when he was 9 months old. He never had a Da, his mom never talked about the mysterious stranger that had fathered Layden and even given him his name. Supposedly he was Layden the second, namesake of his unknown father. But he considered this all a fantasy. Why dwell in the past when you had to live in the now to survive? When he woke up and Mama wasn't there, he left, and that was the start of his lonely career as a loner. He's never become close to anyone because he doesn't want to lose them or for them to betray him. He's had the usual run ins with enemies and even has a scar to prove it.
Oh, and if you want to keep your fur, don't ask him about his past.

SAMPLE |
Layden stumbled down the tunnel that led to the sewers, and eventually, the meager hole that served as his home. He had just run from a very large kitty. A pretty striped large kitty in fact. As he had run, he'd stepped on some glass, now his paw was bleeding. Talk about a horrible day. Couple that with no food and you've got a very miserable Layden.
He sighed and continued to limp down the tunnel, wading through the occasional puddle of waste and watching for anything that might bite. When he finally arrived at his small hovel of a home, he stopped. Something wasn't right. The leaves that concealed the way in were disturbed. He sniffed at the entrance.
CAT! He bounded away, not wanting to risk another fight. He'd simply have to find another home, or perhaps return in the morning to check if this new residence was permanent. Layden didn't think it could get any worse until he heard the voices.
"I'm telling ya, there's someone down here!" a dog's voice.
"I doubt it, who would want to live with such stench?" a different one, though more high pitched. Could be a cat, but he suspected it was a dog.
"I heard something last night, I'm sure of it."
"Whatever, lets just check like we were told to and get out of here."
Layden stiffened and raced back the way he came. He bounded out of the sewers and into the moonlit night. He limped to a scraggly bush and fell asleep, exhausted and shadowed by the huge buildings that towered nearby.
