Shiera
Shiera was lightheartedly strolling the streets, humming a little song to herself.
She felt great. But then again, when was the last time she was actually sad? Shiera didn't want to remember.
She was walking among the mansions and she stared at them fascinated. She heard stories, about strange creatures walking on their hind legs, that built things like that. She heard, that many of these creatures had felines and canines as their companions and that they took good care for them. She heard stories about times, war between felines and canines wasn't going on yet, and everybody, along with strange creatures lived in peace.
Some old cats she met remembered these times, some of them were even companions to these creatures in their past life.
But these things, these creatures suddenly died a few years ago and the only things, that point out that they ever existed were the great things they build.
Shiera was investigating the area, looking around and curiously sniffing every object that was unknown to her.
And suddenly, in the corner of the eye, she spotted a little movement.
She was immediately on the floor in the crouched position. There it was, a little brown mouse, standing on its hind legs, washing its face with its front paws.
Shiera slowly sneaked up on it, until there was only a little piece of metal separating them. She hid behind it, all the muscles in her body were tense in anticipation of a jump. She retained her breath...and jumped. Her teeth sank into mouse's tiny body. She quickly tossed back her head, throwing the mouse high in the air. Shiera caught the mouse with her paw, and then threw its lifeless body to the ground. And that's where the term cat-and-a-mouse game came from.
After the meal, Shiera cleaned up her bloodied muzzle and yawned.
After successful hunt, there is ALWAYS a time for a nap she thought and smiled. That was one of the first thing her mother taught her. She closed her eyes, imagining all the good moments she had with her mom and Fello. That time, when Fello fell in mud and they all laughed...that was one of the rare moments she saw Fello smile.
Or that time mom caught rabbit. For two kittens that were used to eating mice and little birds, rabbit was something marvelous. And she also remembered the stormy nights, when they had to hid in abandoned buildings and they all curled up together, and mother started telling them stories about knights, princesses, ugly monsters, quests and adventures. Shiera had a big imagination and she loved stories.
But suddenly, sad memories came as well. The look on mother's face when a giant canine tore her apart and Fello's fury.
The pain when Fello hit her in a fight.
Shiera quickly snapped from her thoughts. She didn't like sad memories and she didn't want them to ruin beautiful day.
She then started looking for a place to nap. She passed four felines on the way and she happily greeted them. They looked at her with distrust and turned their back to her.
Shiera didn't care. She wouldn't let grumpy cats ruin her day. She found shelter form sun under a large tree. She lied down, closed her eyes and purred.
Well, at least somebody has to be happy.
