PERSONALITY |
Carousel isn't afraid to get her paws dirty and she will do whatever she has to survive, just as her mother taught her. The world that she was born into was far different from the one that her mother was and her mother learned some "harsh rules o' reality" after the human's passed, rules that were passed onto Carousel. Rules like "manipulation is key" and "look both ways before turning a corner", rules drilled into her mind to protect her and rules that Carousel lives by. As such, Carousel has something of a realistic, if cynical, view to her life - that she will die at some point and there is no point in fighting that.
Using what she was born with to help her survival is something that she has to do, she has trouble catching prey herself but what she does have, she is going to use. Carousel can be very manipulative if she has to be, using her lame leg to her advantage to generate sympathy from those who have food or know where she can find shelter, or even those that are stronger than her and who she therefore believes should protect her. This strategy has gotten out of her trouble before and she hopes that it will continue to in the future - why fix what isn't broken?
What she was also born with however is a heart two sizes two big, she tries to detach herself from those around her but sometimes they make it very difficult for her (and that is when she has to leave them). This isn't to say that Carousel is a sweet heart, because she will just as easily use you as she will love you, but she also isn't completely cold. Her mother may have tried to make her that way for her own good but Carousel's underlying nature is still that of someone who wants to love. If she would stop worrying about the worst of the world and focused on its better qualities then she would perhaps make a good mother, a lover, or a friend - because there is something about her personality, perhaps her dry humor, that makes her marginally likable. In the situation that she does become attached and she cannot move away then she just wants to make the other feline/canine happy. Entertainment is in her blood after all, whether her mother may have taught or not.
Carousel can be very presumptuous at times, believing that she knows all that there is to know and that all cats act the same and all dogs act the same and that they are all predictable. This can be somewhat problematic as she tends to misjudge others horribly and wind up in tense or uncomfortable situations as a consequence. Or worse, she can upset others and make them angry. Not being able to run away, she has to hope for the best in these situations and so far her luck has held.
But luck is a fickle thing.• likes | Warm places, the softness of human-made blankets.
• dislikes | Hostility, becoming involved in difficult circumstances.
• goals | To survive.
• fears | Her luck running out - she isn't afraid of dying but rather someone getting the better of her.
• strengths | Mature, street-wise, intelligent
• weaknesses | Cares too much, gets emotionally attached very quickly, manipulative
• mental disorders | none
APPEARANCE |
Carousel has the, ironically, strong features of her breed, ironic because she herself isn't very strong; she is underweight because she doesn't eat often and that is clear if you only look at her. Still, is there truly an animal alive in Hexasol that isn't in such a shape? Sher certainly isn't envious of the larger animals. Carousel's eyes are a pale green colour, her nose and ears pink. Her fairly thick fur is a lavender silver, with brown markings breaking it up at regular intervals. There are brown 'flicks' that come from her eyes in this manner and also what appear to be tabby markings on her forehead. Of course none of this matters, because, as she has learned, all that others seem to notice about her is the "clumsy-half-hop-gait" that has been induced by her lame front leg.• height | 20cm
• weight | 3kg
• fur colour | lavender silver
• eye colour | pale green
• scars | none
• noticeable features | Awkward gate due to her lame leg, mottled patterning
• physical disorders | Her front left leg is lame, making it harder for her to get around than other cats. Carousel was born with this problem with her leg but she tries not to let it bother her, unless of course she is trying to provoke sympathy.
HISTORY |
Carousel's mother belonged to a fairground worker during the time of the humans and she grew up around the noise and comfort that humans bring with them - Lilli only had to purr at her owner to be thrown a fish. Lilli did however notice aspects of human behavior like 'ripping others off' for money and the ability to change moods very quickly. She saw a lot in those days, as she wandered the fairground in search of children to pet her. When the humans died off it was a sharp change for her, one minute her owner was alive and then she fell asleep and woke to found that he would not move. When she exited his trailer, the world she found was very different.
A few years later, Lilli became pregnant by another Ocicat, who loved her and then left her, literally. From what occurred that night came Carousel and her siblings and with that, came responsibility for Lilli.
Carousel and her siblings were raised to be smart and know how to watch their backs; Lilli come from a soft life and she knew how much the world differed from when she was young, knew that raising her kits as she was raised would do them no benefit. Carousel learned rules to live by from her mother as a result and she still has many of them memorized to this day. Despite her mother's attitude to raising her children, Carousel still adored her mother, loved her and looked up to her...and marveled at her strength. She used to wonder how she, just a kit with a lame leg, could have been born to the she-cat.
When Carousel was two, her mother went out hunting one winter and never came back. The sisters heard rumors from other cats that their mother was dead but they never found proof. It is the truth though, Lilli has passed and since her passing, Carousel and her siblings have gone their own ways.
And Carousel is alone.

SAMPLE |
The slap of the cold air against her eyes was shocking as Carousel exited the house she had stayed the night and entered the blustery, winter nightmare that confronted her outside. She half though she should wait the winds out inside but she hadn't had anything to drink in days and her throat was parched, lips dry. Stretching her two back legs and one working front leg, she stepped out of the threshold that was the apartment block's doorway and onto the cracked, weed ridden pavement. The familiar scratching of concrete against her hardened-paw-pads greeted her as the gale whistled through her ears. Carousel shuts her eyes against the breeze as she stepped forward, her good leg, then her two back legs, her lame leg dragging along as she went. There was, however, something comforting in experiencing the same things she went through everyday - it showed a regularity and a continuing and it reassured her nerves.
Carousel's mouth parted as she turned to move down the quiet streets. She was far away from the lands owed by the Iris Pride and their rivals, the Tempest pack. What she simply couldn't understand was why dogs and cats weren't allowed to get along, but what she did understand was that either group would kill her - one for being a traitor to the feline cause and the other for being a "stinking cat". She shook her head at the thought. Things were never easy as they should have been, in an ideal world.
